Body mass index and its impact on migraine prevalence and severity in female patients: preliminary results.
A strikingly increasing number of obese patients causes a great interest in potential medical problems resulting from abnormal body weight. Many conditions are associated with obesity. The severity and risk of migraine may be connected with a body weight. We would like to assess a correlation between body mass index (BMI) and frequency and duration of migraine. ⋯ Increased BMI correlates with frequency of migraine. Its influence on a risk of the headaches and their duration remains to be specified.

Surgical treatment of parasagittal and falcine meningiomas invading the superior sagittal sinus.
We present our experience with surgery of parasagittal and falcine meningiomas invading the superior sagittal sinus with special consideration of the surgical complications and the incidence of tumour recurrence. ⋯ The aggressive surgical treatment of meningiomas infiltrating the superior sagittal sinus is associated with a high surgical risk. The incidence of recurrence of these tumours increases significantly in the case of non-radical excision of the tumour.

ReviewDiagnosis and management of neuropathic pain: review of literature and recommendations of the Polish Association for the study of pain and the Polish Neurological Society - part one.
Neuropathic pain still present a major diagnostic and therapeutic challenge despite considerable progress in understanding of its mechanisms and publication of number of studies which assessed the efficacy and safety of drugs used in the symptomatic treatment. In practice, it is diagnosed less frequently than recognised in the epidemiological studies, and many patients do not achieve satisfactory outcomes of treatment. ⋯ The diagnosis of neuropathic pain may be established based on medical history and physical examination including special assessment of the somatosensory system. First-line drugs used in pharmacological management of neuropathic pain are: tricyclic antidepressants, serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, gabapentin, pregabalin, opioids and lidocaine patches.
