ReviewState-of-the-art approach towards magnetic resonance imaging of the nervous system structures in patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices.
MRI generated forces are the source of potential complications in patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIED). The technological progress, and growing clinical evidence concerning the operation of the contemporary MR non-conditional CIEDs during MRI, have started to significantly change our every-day clinical practice. Nevertheless, a lot of patients who could have an MRI performed safely, still have been refused the examination. ⋯ Further studies are warranted to assess safety issues related to the main current contraindication to MRI, i.e., the presence of abandoned leads.

ReviewTargeting of calcitonin gene-related peptide action as a new strategy for migraine treatment.
Migraine is a chronic, recurrent disorder, characterized by attacks of severe pain, affecting around 1% of adult population. Many studies suggest, that trigeminovascular system plays a key role in pathogenesis of migraine and other primary headaches. ⋯ CGRP is and extensively studied peptide as one of the most promising targets in migraine drug research. In the article we focus on the role of CGRP in the pathophysiology of migraine and present current data on CGRP antagonists and CGRP monoclonal antibodies.

Review Case ReportsRed ear syndrome - case report and review of literature.
Red ear syndrome is characterized by: paroxysmal, unilateral, recurrent pain, redness and discomfort of the ear lobe accompanied by a burning sensation. The duration and frequency of red ear syndrome attacks is very various and the episodes, usually occur spontaneously. ⋯ The occurrence of symptoms of our case may have confirmed the observation that red ear syndrome is associated with primary headaches particularly migraine and cluster headaches. The literature on this case report of pediatric idiopathic red ear syndrome has been reviewed.

The diver's nervous system is extremely sensitive to high ambient pressure, which is the sum of atmospheric and hydrostatic pressure. Neurological complications associated with diving are a difficult diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. ⋯ Complications of the nervous system may result from decompression sickness, pulmonary barotrauma associated with cerebral arterial air embolism (AGE), otic and sinus barotrauma, high pressure neurological syndrome (HPNS) and undesirable effect of gases used for breathing. The purpose of this review is to discuss the range of neurological symptoms that can occur during diving accidents and also the role of patent foramen ovale (PFO) and internal carotid artery (ICA) dissection in pathogenesis of stroke in divers.
