Chronic wounds are an increasing problem in the aging population, patients experience a lower health-related quality of life and the care for these patients is associated with high costs. Thorough wound assessments facilitate objective monitoring of wound status and progress. A wound assessment tool can guide clinicians in these wound assessments and in recording wound progress or deterioration. ⋯ Fourteen assessment tools for chronic wounds were identified. Construct validity (by hypotheses testing) and responsiveness of the Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing version 3.0 were supported by sufficient ratings based on moderate to high level quality of evidence. Reliability of the (Revised) Photographic Wound Assessment Tool had a sufficient rating based on moderate quality of evidence. The ratings of the measurement properties of the other wound assessment tools were either insufficient or indeterminate, or a sufficient result was supported by low to very low quality of evidence. Registration number in PROSPERO: CRD42020183920 Tweetable abstract: A systematic review giving a clear overview of the measurement properties of available assessment tools for chronic wounds.

Intensive care patient diaries written by staff and/or relatives are widely used in intensive care units (ICUs) across the world. Although the original aim of the diaries was to support patients in their recovery from ICU, a more recent focus of the literature has been the potential benefit of the diaries to the relatives of patients. Meta-analyzes of quantitative studies looking at the impact on the psychological wellbeing of relatives have not consistently found an effect of the diaries, even though qualitative studies suggest that relatives find the diaries to be a useful coping strategy. ⋯ Relatives use the diaries in a variety of ways including as a means of coping, a way of staying connected, as a tool to understand and develop a narrative about the experience. These findings link the use of ICU diaries with literature on written emotional exposure, post-traumatic growth and meaning making. The relationship between a relative's use of the ICU diary, coping strategies and/or post-traumatic growth could be a focus for future quantitative trials. PROSPERO protocol number CRD42020165869.

In hospitals, nurses are responsible for pressure injury risk assessment using several kinds of risk assessment scales. However, their predictive validity is insufficient to initiate targeted preventive strategy for each patient. The use of electronic health records with machine learning technique is a promising strategy to provide automated clinical decision-making aid. ⋯ This work was supported by a JSPS KAKENHI Grant-in-Aid for Exploratory Research (16K15865).

Review Meta Analysis
The effects of sitting Tai Chi on physical and psychosocial health outcomes among individuals with impaired physical mobility: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Impaired physical mobility refers to a limitation in independent and purposeful physical movement of the body or one or more extremities. Physical restrictions result in negative consequences on an individual's physical and psychosocial functions. Sitting Tai Chi, a derivative form of traditional Tai Chi, has been found to increase the flexibility of all joints involved and enhance the ability to perform physical activity. However, the evidence of sitting Tai Chi on physical and psychosocial health outcomes on individuals with impaired physical mobility is limited. ⋯ Sitting Tai Chi was found to have favourable effects on depressive symptoms, heart rate, and social domain of quality of life of individuals with impaired physical mobility. Very low to low quality evidence does not support the effectiveness of sitting Tai Chi on dynamic sitting balance, handgrip strength, and the physical and psychological domains of quality of life. There was limited evidence to suggest the best implementation strategies for the sitting Tai Chi intervention. It is anticipated that more well-designed studies will continue developing high quality evidence in this field.

In the last few decades, research and clinical care have attempted to identify and meet the palliative care needs, concerns and challenges of patients of all ages with neurologic disease, under the newly defined subspecialty of neuropalliative care. However, the role of nurses in care organization and provision, as well as nursing priorities with regards to the needs and concerns of patients and families, have not been well articulated. The purpose of this review is to outline priorities in neuropalliative care nursing and examine what questions have been investigated to date. ⋯ Nurses and nursing studies pay attention to things that matter to patients and their families. As the health professionals who spend the most time with patients and families at the bedside and in the community, nurses are well placed to build strong relationships, recognize needs and concerns, and recommend strategies and interventions to enhance comfort and alleviate suffering. In neuropalliative care nursing, this relational engagement becomes critical since patients experience changes to their cognition and communication as a result of disease progression. To enhance patient agency during a vulnerable time, methodologies to include patients who think and communicate differently in clinical care and research are urgently needed. Tweetable abstract: Neuropalliative nursing researchers call for better prognostication, recognition of the dying process, including patients in care decisions.
