Review Meta Analysis
Diagnostic accuracy of diaphragm ultrasound to predict weaning outcome: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
The accuracy of diaphragm ultrasound for predicting weaning outcome is still debated, despite the publication of numerous studies evaluating this issue. ⋯ Registered on http://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO as CRD42017058028. Tweetable abstract: Diaphragm ultrasound predicts extubation failure with high specificity. Absence of diaphragm dysfunction does not imply no risk of extubation failure.

Frailty is prevalent in older adults and has adverse effects on multiple health outcomes. Pain, insomnia, and depressive symptoms are commonly seen and treatable symptoms in older adults and are associated with frailty. However, it is unknown whether these symptoms are independently associated with frailty and how they interact with each other creating a greater impact on frailty than individual symptoms. It is important to understand these associations for nurses to provide high-quality patient-centered care for older adults with frailty. ⋯ Pain, difficulty initiating sleep, and depressive symptoms are independent risk factors of frailty and may have a synergistic impact on frailty. Interventions should be developed to address these symptoms to reduce the adverse effects of frailty.

Osteoarthritis is a long-term condition, and four core treatments are recommended to minimize the interference of pain and symptoms on their daily function. However, older Black Americans have traditionally been at a disadvantage in regard to knowledge of and engagement in chronic disease self-management and self-care. Surprisingly, minimal research has addressed understanding motivational factors key to self-management behaviors. Thus, it is important to understand if older Black Americans' self-management is supported by current recommendations for the management of symptomatic osteoarthritis and what factors limit or motivate engagement in recommended treatments. ⋯ In order to maximize the benefits of osteoarthritis pain self-management, older Black Americans must be equipped with the motivation, resources, information and skills, and time to engage in recommended treatment options. Their repertoire of behavioral self-management did not include two key treatments and is inconsistent with what is recommended, predominantly due to barriers that are difficult to overcome. In these cases, motivation alone is not optimal in promoting self-management. Providers, researchers, and community advocates should work collaboratively to expand access to self-management resources, particularly when personal and community motivation are high.

Prevalence, incidence, length of stay and cost of healthcare-acquired pressure ulcers in pediatric populations: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Pressure ulcers are a major problem for national healthcare systems since they frequently occur in hospitalized patients, negatively affecting patients' quality of life and extending duration of hospitalization. ⋯ Not registered Tweetable abstract: Hospital-acquired pressure ulcers occur frequently in pediatric populations, prolonging their hospitalization and increasing the healthcare cost.

Universal face mask use was recommended owing to the growing pandemic of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). However, little is known about the public's compliance with mask-wearing behaviours. ⋯ Nearly all people wore face mask and most of them used it properly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hand hygiene before and during mask-wearing, choosing an appropriate type of face mask, reusing disposal face mask, and disposing of used face masks should be particularly emphasized in future evidence dissemination or behaviour-change interventions. Information on social media platforms for evidence dissemination and behaviour change may benefit the public the most, but this initiative requires further research to investigate its effectiveness.
