Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a public health emergency of international concern and has caused traumatic experience for nurses worldwide. However, the prevalence of depression and anxiety symptoms in nurses, and how psychosocial factors influence nurses in this public crisis are unknown. ⋯ Our study revealed the high prevalence of depression and anxiety among nurses during the outbreak of COVID-19. COVID-19 factors and psychosocial factors were associated with mental health of nurses. The results suggest that hospitals should implement effective mental health promotion programs focused on occupational safety and family support to improve the well-being of nurses.

A healthy healthcare system requires healthy healthcare workers. Protecting healthcare workers including nurses against COVID-19 is crucial, and vaccination could be a viable future option. However, vaccine hesitancy remains a global challenge. Nurses, as a trustworthy and creditable source of vaccine-related information, may build public confidence in vaccination. Hence, research on vaccine hesitancy among nurses is warranted. ⋯ Less than two-third of nurses intended to take COVID-19 vaccine when available. While a COVID-19 vaccine could be ready soon, nursing profession is not ready to accept it.

A range of classification systems are in use for the measurement of nursing workload in Intensive Care Units. However, it is unknown to what extent the measured (objective) nursing workload, usually in terms of the amount of nursing activities, is related to the workload actually experienced (perceived) by nurses. ⋯ Workload is perceived differently by nurses compared to the objectively measured workload by the Nursing Activities Score. Both the severity of illness of the patient and being a student nurse are factors that increase the perceived nursing workload. To keep the workload of nurses in balance, planning nursing capacity should be based on the Nursing Activities Score, on the severity of patient illness and the graduation level of the nurse.

Cultural competence is a key component of culturally congruent nursing care. In order to reduce healthcare inequalities and to identify potentials for improvement in nursing practice, researchers need to be able to assess cultural competence properly. Although many instruments for the assessment of cultural competence have been developed, their measurement properties have not yet been reviewed systematically. Such an overview of existing instruments, however, would allow researchers to identify the most valid and reliable instrument for nursing practice. ⋯ Given the broad availability of self-administered instruments to assess cultural competence, the development of new instrument is not recommended. A particular need was identified to conduct further psychometric evaluation studies on existing instruments and to adapt them accordingly, and especially on less frequently evaluated properties, such as reliability, measurement error and responsiveness.

Intermittent versus continuous enteral nutrition on feeding intolerance in critically ill adults: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Enteral formula delivery strategy is an important part of enteral nutrition. We aimed to synthesize up-to-date studies to clarify the effects of intermittent versus continuous feeding on feeding intolerance during enteral nutrition in critically ill adults. ⋯ In critically ill adults, continuous feeding was associated with lower overall incidence of feeding intolerance, especially in high gastric volume and aspiration. However, decreased constipation incidence and more calorie intake were observed in intermittent feeding group. Because quality of the synthesized evidence was "low" or "very low", there is considerable uncertainty about this estimate.
