Diagnostic accuracy of ultrasonography for detecting nasogastric tube (NGT) placement in adults: A systematic review and meta analysis.
To review the evidence on diagnostic accuracy of ultrasonography for detecting correct nasogastric tube (NGT) placement in adults compared to X-ray as the reference standard. ⋯ The main limitation of the review is the relatively moderate level of heterogeneity of included studies which may partially undermine the reliability and reproducibility of results. The insufficient studies included did not allow identification of possible sources of heterogeneity and exploration of reporting bias. Due to heterogeneity of studies, the diagnostic performance of ultrasonography could only be drawn cautiously. Physicians and nurses should perform routine X-ray if visualization of NGT is not possible. More well designed studies exploring ultrasound as a diagnostic tool for accuracy of NGT placement are needed to strengthen the current evidence.

Effects of acupressure on chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting-a systematic review with meta-analyses and trial sequential analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Acupressure has been used as an effective way in treating with stomach upset. However the efficacy of acupressure in preventing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting is uncertain. ⋯ This systematic review suggested a protective effect of acupressure on chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, while more well-designed clinical trials with larger sample size were needed to draw a definitive conclusion.

Devices and dressings to secure peripheral venous catheters: A Cochrane systematic review and meta-analysis.
Peripheral venous catheterisation is the most frequent invasive procedure performed in hospitalised patients; yet over 30% of peripheral venous catheters fail before treatment ends. ⋯ There is no strong evidence to suggest that any one dressing or securement product for preventing peripheral venous catheter failure is more effective than any other product. All of the included trials were small, had high or unclear risk of bias for one or more of the quality elements we assessed, and wide confidence intervals, indicating that further randomised controlled trials are necessary. There is a need for suitably powered, high quality trials to evaluate the newer, high use products and novel - but expensive - securement methods, such as surgical grade glue.

Effectiveness of emergency nurses' use of the Ottawa Ankle Rules to initiate radiographic tests on improving healthcare outcomes for patients with ankle injuries: A systematic review.
The Ottawa Ankle Rules provide guidelines for clinicians on the recommendation of radiographic tests to verify fractures in patients with ankle injuries. The use of the Ottawa Ankle Rules by emergency nurses has been suggested to minimise unnecessary radiographic-test requests and reduce patients' length of stay in emergency departments. However, the findings of studies in this area are inconsistent. ⋯ The results of the systematic review suggested that a nurse-initiated radiographic test protocol should be introduced as standard practice in emergency departments.

Skin antiseptics in venous puncture site disinfection for preventing blood culture contamination: A Bayesian network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
To compare the efficacy of several antiseptics in decreasing the blood culture contamination rate. ⋯ Different antiseptics may not affect the blood culture contamination rate. Different intervals between the skin disinfection and the venous puncture, the different settings (emergency room, medical wards, and intensive care units) and the performance of the phlebotomy may affect the blood culture contamination rate.
