The appropriate use of antibiotics is an important strategy in slowing the development of antimicrobial resistance. This study aimed to evaluate antibiotic consumption and antibiotic use during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pre-pandemic period and pandemic period. ⋯ It was observed that the use of many intravenous antibiotics in our hospital increased during the pandemic period.

The aim of the study was to compare health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in subjects with and without self-reported diabetes in a representative sample of the Polish general adult population. ⋯ We provided a consistent description of HRQoL, measured using the SF-12 questionnaire, in subjects with self-reported diabetes and respondents without diabetes in a nationally representative sample of Polish adults. Identifying factors independently associated with worse HRQoL in respondents with diabetes may help healthcare providers target intervention programmes more effectively.

Accumulating evidence has shown the potential of bergamottin as an anticancer agent. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the anticancer affects of bergamottin (μM) against colon cancer cells. ⋯ Taken together, bergamottin suppresses the proliferation of colon cancer cells and may be utilised in the development of chemotherapy for colon cancer.

The article aims to emphasize the necessity of proper research design, both scientifically and ethically, in order to provide good evidence for physicians to base their decisions on when prescribing drug treatment. ⋯ Favipiravir, ivermectin and andrographolide need further well-conducted research to confirm the efficacy and safety against COVID-19 at different stages.

Blood cells are involved in systemic inflammation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We aimed to assess differences in leukocyte subsets and their ratios between COPD patients and healthy individuals as well as their association with disease severity, smoking status and therapy in COPD. ⋯ Leukocyte subsets and their ratios could be implemented in COPD assessment, especially in evaluating disease severity and prediction.
