In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of miRNA-21 and the regulating pathway that promotes the differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs). ⋯ MiRNA-21 could regulate differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) to cardiomyocyte-like cells through the ajuba/Isl1 axis pathway.

Overactive bladder (OAB) is a disease that significantly decreases quality of life. Adverse effects of the drugs currently used in OAB treatment limit their use in patients with hypertension. Nebivolol (a β1-adrenergic receptor blocker) is approved for hypertension treatment, but also shows agonistic activity on β3-adrenergic receptor, located in the urinary bladder. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of nebivolol on OAB symptoms and cardiovascular parameters in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) - an animal model of OAB and hypertension. ⋯ Nebivolol alleviates OAB symptoms and normalises blood pressure in SHRs. These results suggest that nebivolol may be a useful treatment alternative for OAB patients with pre-existing hypertension.

Omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) represent almost 15% of the total energy intake in Western countries. Their effects on the cardiovascular (CV) risk factors are still controversial. Thus, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized control trials (RCTs) as well as a Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to evaluate the links and possible causality between supplementation or serum levels of omega-6 PUFA, CV disease (CVD) and cardiometabolic risk factors. ⋯ Omega-6 PUFA supplementation did not affect the risk for CVD morbidity and mortality. Additionally, based on MR analysis we found that higher AA levels might even significantly increase the risk of CHD, MI and large artery stroke, as well as the levels of FBG and LDL-C, whereas they were negatively associated with TC and TG. Since a considerable chance of heterogeneity was observed for some of the results, further research is needed to elucidate the effects of omega-6 PUFAs on cardiometabolic outcomes.

The objective of the study was to characterize the baseline intra-individual and inter-individual variability of immune cell subsets within abdominoplasty skin specimens. ⋯ Our data highlight the importance of including multiple patients and multiple patient samples when designing dermatological studies that utilise abdominoplasty skin.

The aim of the study was to develop a simple tool for early identification of high-risk patients with recurrent acute pancreatitis (RAP) progression to chronic pancreatitis (CP) in primary hospitals or outpatient clinics. ⋯ The nomogram provided a means of predicting which patients were at high risk of progression to CP.
