The histopathology grading system is the gold standard post-operative method to evaluate cartilage degeneration in knee osteoarthritis (OA). Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) T1 rho/T2 mapping imaging can be used for preoperative detection. An association between histopathology and T1 rho/T2 mapping relaxation times was suggested in previous research. However, the cutoff point was not determined among different histopathology grades. Our study aimed to determine the cutoff point of T1 rho/T2 mapping. ⋯ The cutoff point of T1 rho relaxation times, which was suggested as 33 ms, could be used to distinguish early-stage and advanced OA.

The differences in protein expression of calcium sensitive receptor (CaSR) and claudin-14 in a kidney stone model established by nanobacteria (NB) and ethylene glycol (EG) were compared. ⋯ Our results indicate that the traditional EG kidney stone modeling method is more rapid than the NB kidney stone modeling method, with a high stone formation rate, and the CaSR and claudin-14 protein expression levels are higher. Meanwhile, the NB used to establish the kidney stone model was isolated from patients with kidney stones, which may imitate the process of natural formation of kidney stones of patients. Therefore, the results of our research are more conducive to related research on the etiology of stones.

Markers of inflammation such as neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) have been found to be associated with survival in cancer patients. The aim of the current study was to establish the prognostic significance of simple laboratory markers of systemic inflammation in paediatric patients diagnosed with Wilms tumour (WT). Additionally, we aimed to compare the complete blood count (CBC) parameters of WT patients and the non-oncological control group. ⋯ Preoperative LDH, CRP, NLR, PLR, and LMR have significant prognostic value in patients with WT independently of age and stage. Combined low CRP and high LMR identified the group of patients with excellent OS. Patients with high LDH were characterized by the highest risk of relapse.

In parallel with the rapid growth of obesity, there is also an increase in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) worldwide. Due to its complications, cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in those patients. ⋯ In this review article, we discuss microRNA modulation with oxidative stress and inflammation in patients with T2D. Better insight into the novel potential therapeutic targets for treatment of diabetes and its complications is of utmost importance for public health.
