The role of low-dose aspirin combined with low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) in the treatment of preeclampsia (PE) remains unclear. We aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of low-dose aspirin combined with LMWH in PE treatment, to provide evidence for clinical PE management. ⋯ Low-dose aspirin combined with LMWH treatment of PE may be advantageous to improve blood pressure, 24-hour proteinuria and coagulation function, and it may reduce the adverse reactions in pregnant women without increasing adverse perinatal outcomes.

The aim of the current study was to evaluate the association of spironolactone and arterial stiffness and composite cardiovascular disease (CVD, including coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure and ischemic stroke) in hypertensive patients. ⋯ Spironolactone treatment is independently associated with lower cf-PWV and lower prevalence of composite CVD in patients with increased arterial stiffness.

There are limited studies exploring the effects of n-3 PUFA supplementation on pregnancy outcomes. The goal of this study was to review relevant studies in order to determine the effect of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (n-3 PUFA) supplementation on pregnancy outcomes based on eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs). ⋯ The available evidence shows that n-3 PUFA is not beneficial in reducing the incidence of maternal pregnancy outcomes such as gestational diabetes mellitus and hypertension; but it is beneficial to neonatal health such as decreasing the incidence of preterm delivery and low birthweight and increasing birth weight and birth length.

No early treatment intervention for COVID-19 has proven effective to date. We systematically reviewed the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine as early treatment for COVID-19. ⋯ Hydroxychloroquine was not efficacious as early treatment for COVID-19 infections in RCTs with low to very low quality of evidence for all outcomes. More RCTs are needed to elucidate the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine as early treatment intervention.

Biomaterial technology due to its lack of or minimal side effects in tissues has great potential. Traditionally biomaterials used were cobalt-chromium, stainless steel and nitinol alloys. Biomaterials such as magnesium (Mg) and zinc (Zn) have good biocompatibility and consequently can be a potential material for medical implants. To date, the effects of AZ31 alloy stent on cell apoptosis are still unclear. The current investigation was designed to determine the effect of AZ31 alloy stent on necrosis and apoptosis of common bile duct (CBD) epithelial cells. ⋯ To conclude, it can be stated that AZ31 induces apoptosis via alteration in genes including nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB), caspase-3, Bax and Bax/Bcl-2 ratio and improved the hematological, hepatic and non-hepatic parameters.
