A single measurement of any biomarker may not reflect its full biological meaning. The kinetics of fibrosis-linked microRNAs and their relationship with extracellular matrix (ECM) fibrosis in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) have not been explored. ⋯ Regardless of ECM fibrosis status or duration of the disease, 12-month patterns of circulating microRNAs are similar in DCM. Correlations between microRNAs, measured at 3 and 12 months, are lower than expected. In this study, regardless of the time point, circulating microRNAs were not able to differentiate between DCM patients with versus without fibrosis.

The aim of the study was to compare health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in subjects with and without self-reported diabetes in a representative sample of the Polish general adult population. ⋯ We provided a consistent description of HRQoL, measured using the SF-12 questionnaire, in subjects with self-reported diabetes and respondents without diabetes in a nationally representative sample of Polish adults. Identifying factors independently associated with worse HRQoL in respondents with diabetes may help healthcare providers target intervention programmes more effectively.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common primary bone tumor, and the main affected population is adolescents. The survival of OS patients was 10-20% when surgery was used as a single treatment. There is less basic research on OS than other tumors, and we need more ways to improve the survival rate. Phosphotyrosine picked threonine kinase (TTK) has been widely reported as an oncogene in multiple types of cancers, and it is also known as a clinical therapeutic target. This study aims to assess TTK expression levels in human OS tissues and its link with the clinical characteristics of OS patients, and to evaluate the potential role in OS development. ⋯ We demonstrated the involvement of TTK in the development of OS, and therefore we suggest that TTK should be considered as a promising therapy target for OS.

The aim of the study was to develop a simple tool for early identification of high-risk patients with recurrent acute pancreatitis (RAP) progression to chronic pancreatitis (CP) in primary hospitals or outpatient clinics. ⋯ The nomogram provided a means of predicting which patients were at high risk of progression to CP.

The objective of the study was to characterize the baseline intra-individual and inter-individual variability of immune cell subsets within abdominoplasty skin specimens. ⋯ Our data highlight the importance of including multiple patients and multiple patient samples when designing dermatological studies that utilise abdominoplasty skin.
