Growing evidence supports the involvement of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in bone metabolism and diseases. This study aims to investigate the involvement of the lncRNA metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) in the pathological process of osteoporosis and the effects of MALAT1 on regulation of BMSC differentiation through competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) mechanisms. ⋯ Downregulated MALAT1 and upregulated miR-320a expression play an important role in the pathological process of osteoporosis, via inhibition of the osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs.

Surfactant replacement therapy (SRT) might cause acute changes in cerebral oxygenation and alteration of brain bioelectrical activity. Varying physiologic responses and clinical outcomes were observed when different surfactant preparations were instilled to treat neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). ⋯ This is the first study assessing brain bioelectrical function and oxygenation while using two different surfactant preparations in a neonate. Cerebral effects of SRT are observed regardless of the type of surfactant, but their magnitude may depend on the preparation and/or dosing used.

Telocytes (TCs), also called interstitial Cajal-like cells (ICLC), CD34+ cells or PDGFRα+ cells (platelet-derived growth factor receptor α positive cells), a new type of cell of mesenchymal origin, were described over one decade ago. The unique nature of these cells still deserves attention from the scientific community. Telocytes make homo- and heterocellular contact with myocytes, immunocytes and nerves, have their own immunohistochemical and secretome profiles and thus might regulate local regenerative processes including angiogenesis and fibrosis. The aim of our study was to observe the missing link between angiogenesis and telocytes in leiomyoma, the most common benign tumors affecting women of reproductive age. ⋯ Our results demonstrate TCs in human uterine fibroids and highlight their possible involvement in the pathogenesis of myometrial pathology in the context of angiogenesis.

Human glioma is known as the most frequent and primary malignant tumour of the central nervous system with high aggression and poor prognosis. Runx1 is essential for haematopoiesis and is associated with tumour progression in several types of cancers. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect and the possible regulatory mechanisms of Runx1 in glioma. ⋯ Runx1 promotes the development of glioma cells via JAK/STAT signalling pathway by inhibiting the activation of SOCS3/SOCS4 promoter.

In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of rs531564 and the underlying signaling pathways. ⋯ rs531564 could affect the expression of BIM by reducing the expression of miR-124, and it could be a bio-marker for the length of recovery after SCI.
