Our aim was to perform a clinical analysis of small intestinal obstructions caused by surgically treated phytobezoars. ⋯ Phytobezoars should be considered in the differential diagnosis of acute small intestinal obstruction in patients with prior gastric surgery, poor dentition, or consume fiber-rich foods. Abdominal CT is useful for both diagnosis and for the decision to perform emergency surgery. When possible, the phytobezoar should be fragmented and milked into the cecum. Laparoscopic fragmentation may be useful in such cases (Tab. 3, Ref. 28). Full Text (Free, PDF) www.bmj.sk.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of mild hypothermia (34-35 degrees C) on the final neurological outcome in patients after resuscitation from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. ⋯ The study confirmed feasibility, safety and possible efficacy of the mild hypothermia (34-35 degrees C) patients after the cardiac arrest. To evaluate whether the target temperature 34-35 degrees C is as beneficial as 32-34 degrees C; a randomised controlled trial design should be used (Tab. 4, Fig. 2, Ref. 17). Repair of an inguinal hernia is one of the most common operations performed in general surgery with significant costs to health care and society. Lichtenstein mesh repair has been the most widely performed groin hernia repair. In this study, we wanted to emphasize the effectiveness of local anesthesia in groin hernia repair by single-surgeon's experience. ⋯ Lichtenstein mesh repair under local anesthesia is an effective day case technique, particularly in the elderly and medically unfit patients. The economic benefits are enhanced by low morbidity and low recurrence rates (Ref. 5). Full Text (Free, PDF) www.bmj.sk.

The study was designed to identify any association between the sacral hiatus of the dry sacral bones with that of patients with low back pain (LBP). The knowledge of the sacral hiatus is important in caudal epidural block (CEB). ⋯ The patients with LBP had a higher percentage of deficient dorsal walls in comparison to the osteological findings (Fig. 12, Tab. 7, Ref. 12).
