In this study we aimed to evaluate whether there is a link between circulating 25-OH-D levels and molecular response in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). ⋯ Our results indicated for the first time in the literature that severe deficiency of vitamin D was independently associated with molecular unresponsiveness in subjects with CML. 25-OH-D may be contributing to molecular response in the patients (Tab. 3, Ref. 24).

Many studies use stimulated saliva for the assessment of cortisol. However, it is not yet clear how stimulation affects the flow of specific markers. The aim was to assess whether stimulation of salivation affects the physiological flow of cortisol during a stressing day as compared to an ordinary day. The second aim was to show how the normalising factor affects the outcome of the study. ⋯ Based on our results, the examination of the cortisol diurnal rhythm is not reliable in stimulated saliva. Moreover, the effect of saliva stimulation has to be taken into account for every marker individually (Fig. 2, Ref. 22).

Association of apelin and AF in patients with implanted loop recorders undergoing catheter ablation.
Previous studies showed an association between apelin and atrial fibrillation (AF). The aim of this study was to analyse the effect of pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) in patients with paroxysmal AF on plasmatic apelin concentrations. ⋯ Our study showed a significant increase in apelin levels after the reduction of AF burden via PVI and an inverse correlation with AF burden. Apelin might be a promising marker of AF (Tab. 2, Fig. 2, Ref. 28).

Transient receptor potential (TRP) channels expression is enhanced significantly in colon cancer cells and Low Lever Laser Treatment (LLLT), is known to have effects and is used clinically in the treatment ofmany diseases, including colon cancer. We aimed to reveal the effects of (LLLT) on apoptosis of colon cancer and on the efficacy of cyclophosphamide via Transient receptor potential melastatin 2 (TRPM2) channels. ⋯ It has been shown that apoptotic effects of cyclophosphamide on colon cancer cells were directly related to TRPM2 channels, low level laser increased apoptosis in colon cancer cells through TRPM2 channels and induced apoptotic effect of cyclophosphamide (Fig. 5, Ref. 26).

The failure of pancreatic anastomosis after the proximal pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) and the failure of pancreatic stump after the distal pancreatectomy with a resulting postoperative pancreatic fistula remain the most feared complications after pancreatic resection. Surgeons have been trying to find a reliable reconstructive technique of pancreatic anastomosis for decades. ⋯ Grade C POPF following PD, although uncommon, occurs with a defined incidence and is associated with a substantial morbidity, prolonged hospitalization, delayed recovery and a significant mortality. According to the results of various meta-analyses, pancreatogastrostomy and pancreatojejunostomy seemed to be comparable anastomotic techniques following PD (Ref. 54).
