Dysphagia after anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is a regular complication. The aim of this study was to identify risk factors for incidence and severity of dysphagia after ACDF with zero-profile spacer. ⋯ Risk factors for incidence and severity of pre-existing dysphagia were myelopathy and GERD. Risk factors for dysphagia incidence after ACDF were number of treated segments, pre-existing dysphagia, myelopathy and surgery of C4/5 segment (Tab. 6, Fig. 1, Ref. 30).

Clinical manifestation of secondary immunodeficiency is responsible for the decrease in lfe quality in cancer‑treated patients, which may result in administration delays, dose reductions, even in discontinuation of treatment. The main aim of presented study was to stress the possibility of influencing secondary infections with adjunctive immuno-regulatory medicament (AIRT). ⋯ Our results strongly advise regular or even preventive examination of cancer patients by immunologic specialist for the purpose of attenuating some negative consequences of applied anti-tumor therapy (Tab. 1, Fig. 4, Ref. 14). Sialendoscopy is a relatively new mini-invasive method that allows direct visualisation and intervention in the salivary gland ductal system. The aim of the study was to evaluate the results of sialendoscopy in the treatment of obstructive sialadenitis. ⋯ The study acknowledges the significant benefit of sialendoscopy in the treatment of obstructive sialadenitis (Tab. 3, Fig. 6, Ref. 39). Electroencephalography (EEG) signals are considered one of the oldest techniques for detecting disorders in medical signal processing. However, brain complexity and the non-stationary nature of EEG signals represent a challenge when applying this technique. The current paper proposes new geometrical features for classification of seizure (S) and seizure-free (SF) EEG signals with respect to the Poincaré pattern of discrete wavelet transform (DWT) coefficients. ⋯ Also, Poincaré plot of SF EEG signals has more regular geometrical shapes as compared to S group. As a final remark, we notice that the Poincaré plot of coefficients in S EEG signals has occupied more space as compared to SF EEG signals (Tab. 3, Fig. 11, Ref. 57). Despite known risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D), the research community still tries to discover new markers that would widen our diagnostic and therapeutic approach to diabetes. Therefore, research on microRNA (miR) in diabetes thrives. This study aimed to assess the utility of miR-126, miR-146a, and miR-375 as novel diagnostic markers for T2D. ⋯ The study proved a statistically significant reduction of miR-126 and miR-146a in patients with T2D (Tab. 4, Fig. 6, Ref. 51). Text in PDF www.elis.sk Keywords: microRNA, epigenetics, genomics, type 2 diabetes mellitus, miR-126, miR-146a and miR-375.
