There is ongoing research on treatments that promote antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms, which will reduce mortality in sepsis. In this study, we compared the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities of quercetin and ascorbic acid using a sepsis model induced in infant rats. ⋯ The antioxidant activity, which is impaired in sepsis, was increased by both molecules. We observed that these two molecules, which are free of side effects, have a positive influence on the progression of sepsis to severe and fatal sepsis in childhood (Tab. 2, Ref. 38).

Differences in neonatal pharmacokinetics are known to cause systemic accumulation of levobupivacaine with adverse effects during epidural analgesia. Therefore, it is not recommended to surpass 48 hours of administration in neonates. Free and total levobupivacaine levels are considered as predictors of toxicity. ⋯ Caudal epidural analgesia with levobupivacaine lasting longer than 48 hours appears to be safe providing that free levobupivacaine levels are below the presumed threshold for toxicity (Tab. 1, Fig. 1, Ref. 29). The goal of our research was to determine the impact of clinical nutrition in the form of home parenteral nutrition (HPN) in patients with nutritional disorders, most often caused by diseases of the digestive tract, with the risk of developing malnutrition. ⋯ Based on our results, we can conclude that the patients included in the HPN were correctly indicated, and all of them, based on the monitored parameters (regardless of gender, age, initial diagnosis, or BMI value), benefited from the applied treatment, which was correctly chosen based on their individual needs. Our results clearly document the irreplaceable role of HPN in the management of patients with nutritional intake disorders leading to the development of malnutrition (Tab. 2, Fig. 10, Ref. 44). We performed this meta-analysis determining the antihypertensive effect of telmisartan versus perindopril in patients with essential hypertension. ⋯ The reduction of DBP is greater treated with telmisartan than perindopril in patients with essential hypertension (Tab. 2, Fig. 4, Ref. 34). The study aimed to determine the factors affecting the mortality of geriatric patients presenting to the emergency department with non-traumatic abdominal pain, as well as the associations of these factors with mortality. ⋯ This study highlights the importance of careful evaluation of elderly patients with neurological diseases, previous surgical history, and anemia in the emergency department with non-traumatic abdominal pain (Tab. 5, Ref. 18).
