The aim of this study is to determine biomarkers, which may be used in order to understand the pathophysiology, the diagnosis, progression surveillance/monitoring, and treatment efficacy of high graded glial tumors. ⋯ EC and VEGF121 are biomarkers, which have the potential to be used in the diagnosis, recurrence and treatment follow-up in high graded glial tumors (Tab. 2, Fig. 1, Ref. 37). Text in PDF www.elis.sk Keywords: E-Cadherin, VEGF, Survivin, Tenascin-C, Tetraspanin, glioblastoma.

This study is aimed to determine the location and distribution of pulmonary embolism (PE) and presence of signs potentially indicative of right heart overload on computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) in COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients. We also evaluated the extent and severity of COVID-19-associated lung changes in relation to PE. ⋯ COVID-19 is associated with a higher incidence of peripheral location of PE and presence of GGO. There were signs indicative of right heart overload in cases with PE regardless of COVID-19 (Tab. 3, Fig. 1, Ref. 29) Keywords: COVID-19, computed tomography, CTPA, pneumonia, pulmonary embolism.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has a significant effect on the development of cardiovascular complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between carotid intima-media thickness (IMT), paraoxonase 1 (PON 1) enzyme levels and severity of OSA. ⋯ The findings of our study indicate that PON1 and carotid IMT might be used as indicators of vascular damage in patients with OSA. Depending on the severity of OSA, measurement of PON1 enzyme activity in conjunction with carotid IMT may help us in predicting the cardiovascular risk in patients with OSA (Tab. 4, Fig. 2, Ref. 27).

Inflammation is a common feature of all chronic liver diseases and atherosclerosis. The article discusses the participation of cytokines and inflammasomes in the process of development of metabolically associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and the ways of their activation under the influence of inductive stimuli (toxins, alcohol, fat, viruses, etc.), most often in the case of disruption of intestinal permeability through toll-like receptors with an imbalance in the composition of intestinal microflora and bile acids. ⋯ The article emphasizes the importance of the liver-intestinal axis and modulation of microbiome, as well as calls attention to the influence of the circadian rhythm of the 12-hour pacemaker on gene production in NASH (non-alcoholic steatohepatitis) developing (Fig. 4, Ref. 56). Keywords: NASH, MAFLD, microbiome, lipotoxicity, bile acids, inflammasomes.

This study aimed to analyze the global profile of the literature in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) research. ⋯ This study provides a unique composite picture of NAFLD research worldwide and evaluates research productivity from 1973 to 2022. This finding suggests that the prospects for interventions in NAFLD remain promising (Tab. 5, Fig. 4, Ref. 57). Text in PDF www.elis.sk Keywords: bibliometric analysis, NAFLD, Scopus.
