Globally, adolescent pregnancy constitutes a serious public health problem of a multifactorial nature. Specifically for women, it entails various educational, economic and social implications that affect their life project and widen the social gaps in this age group. Furthermore, adolescent girls are more vulnerable because of the health risk involved with pregnancy at a younger age. ⋯ In general, adolescents are in great need for education on sexual and reproductive health issues, which should be aimed at increasing information and knowledge about correct use and access to modern contraceptive methods, as well as at demystifying fears and beliefs around their possible side effects. Ensuring proper counseling with trained personnel is equally vital. Public institutions have a social responsibility to support efforts aimed at preventing adolescent pregnancy, based on relevant lines of action and health policies.

Preterm labor accounts for more than 85% of perinatal morbidity, frequently requiring intensive care and presenting complications that can have consequences throughout the individual's life. More than half of preterm delivery cases have unknown causes and therefore no clear preventable etiology. From observation in epidemiological studies that demonstrated longer pregnancies in populations with high consumption of marine oils, attempts have been made to define the benefit of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) prevention in premature childbirth through randomized clinical trials, as well as its preventive value. This review discusses the relationship between prenatal supplementation of n-3 long chain PUFA during pregnancy and the incidence of preterm delivery.

Acquired hemophilia (AH) is an autoimmune hemostatic disorder mediated by autoantibodies directed against factor VIII: C. In 52% of cases, the cause is unknown or is not associated with other pathological entities; in the rest, there are concomitant factors: lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, pregnancy, and medications. In Mexico, there is not a registry of AH, and awareness of the disease among health personnel is low. ⋯ Most cases of AH are not diagnosed, which translates into a high mortality rate. Given that awareness about the disease among physicians is low, it is not suspected, neither diagnosed, and nor is it treated. This document reviews the most recent data on AH and expands on its diagnosis and treatment.
