[Staphylococcus aureus nosocomial infections in critically ill patients admitted in intensive care units].
To investigate the frequency of nosocomial infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus in critically ill patients admitted to Spanish intensive care units (ICUs) and to describe the characteristics and outcome of patients in whom this pathogen was isolated. ⋯ S. aureus was isolated in 19.8% of patients with ICU-acquired infection, particularly in relation to pneumonia in mechanically ventilated patients. Mortality in patients with S. aureus infection was higher than that in patients with infections due to other microorganisms and patients without infection. In contrast, differences in the outcome of patients with infections caused by methicillin-sensitive or methicillin-resistant S. aureus were not found.

[Basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation program for high school students (PROCES). Results from the pilot program].
The PROCES (Programa de Reanimació Cardiopulmonar Orientat a Centres d'Ensenyament Secundari) program is aimed at teaching basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (b-CPR) to teenagers within high school. Our aim was to analyze the results obtained from the pilot program. ⋯ PROCES is an useful tool for teaching and improving teenagers' knowledge and skills in b-CPR, with no exceptions associated with teenagers' characteristics.

[Enterococcal infections in critically ill patients admitted to ICU].
To determine the frequency of infections caused by Enterococcus spp. in critically ill patients admitted to ICUs in Spain and to describe the clinical features and outcome of those patients in whom this pathogen was isolated. ⋯ Enterococcus spp. was present in 10.2% patients with ICU-acquired infection. Infection by Enterococcus spp. mainly occurred in the form of urinary tract infection and secondary bacteremia, mainly related to abdominal and soft tissue infections. E. faecalis predominated in all foci. There were no differences in mortality between patients with Enterococcus spp. infection and patients with infection caused by other pathogens.

[Validation of the Spanish version of the Brief Pain Inventory in patients with oncological pain].
Our goal was to validate the Spanish version of the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) questionnaire used to measure the intensity of oncological pain and its impact on activities of daily living in patients with cancer. ⋯ The Spanish version of BPI is valid for measuring the intensity of oncological pain and its impact on activities of daily living in conditions of usual clinical practice.

[Dyspepsia-related quality of life. Spanish adaptation and validation of the questionnaire Dyspepsia-Related Health Scale].
Dyspepsia affects about 25 % of the population and may cause an important decrease in quality of life. The aim of this work was to perform a Spanish validation and adaptation of the questionnaire DRHS (Dyspepsia Related Health Scale), a tool that assesses dyspepsia-related quality of life. ⋯ The Spanish version of the DRHS, so-called QoL-PEI (questionnaire of quality of life related with problems of stomach and intestine), displays good metric properties and is able to predict the evolution of dyspepsia. The results of this study show that this tool is essentially unidimensional, yet it can be used on a multidimensional form to perform a differentiated assessment of each evaluated case.
