Protection against cardiovascular diseases is provided by the dynamics of risk screening and counseling of primary health care services. Depression is known to pose a risk for cardiovascular diseases. The aim of our study was to determine which specific features of well-known depressed people who had not yet experienced a cardiovascular event were associated with cardiovascular risk. ⋯ Obesity is a high cardiovascular risk predictor that can be screened at one site in depression. While the body mass index of depressed individuals was correlated with the cardiovascular risk, this index being above 30 was indicative of high cardiovascular risk.

In diabetics, cardiac microvascular circulation disorder increases the risk of arrhythmia and sudden cardiac death. Tpeak-Tend (Tp-e) interval, Tp-e dispersion, and Tp-e/QT and Tp-e/QTc ratios measured by surface electrocardiogram (ECG) are new parameters used to evaluate ventricular arrhythmogenity. We aimed to compare QT dispersion (QTd), corrected QT dispersion (QTcd), P dispersion (Pd), Tp-e interval, Tp-e dispersion, and Tp-e/QT and Tp-e/QTc ratios in patients with type- 2 diabetes (T2D) with healthy population. ⋯ The risk of arrhythmia can be predicted by evaluating Tp-e interval, Tp-e dispersion, Tp-e/QT, and Tp-e/QTc ratio, suggesting heterogeneity of ventricular repolarization and P wave and Pd showing heterogeneity of atrial repolarization in diabetic patients.

This review was undertaken to highlight the worldwide prevalence and causes of visual impairment (VI), on the basis of a wide range of recent and clearly defined data and in comparison with published articles from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. ⋯ Epidemiological surveys about the prevalence and causes of VI are crucial for the formulation of preventive and curative measures. Data about VI are still scarce with a need to make wider population based surveys, worldwide and in Saudi Arabia for in-depth evaluation of the problem and better strategies to reduce the burden of VI.

The objective of the study was to determine post-traumatic stress disorder among children after six month of terrorist attack inspite of rigorous psychosocial support and rehabilitation. ⋯ Study found a very high prevalence of PTSD among 10 to 18 years age group students of Army Public School inspite of five months continuous intervention and rehabilitation services. Study showed that this age group needs long term psychosocial treatment in case of trauma.
