To determine clinical manifestations and laboratory findings in patients with BSS diagnosed through platelet aggregometry followed in a tertiary care hospital in Lahore, Pakistan. ⋯ Our data is consistent with other reports regarding clinical presentation of BSS, but we report large number of BSS patients from our area, emphasizing significance to provide diagnostic services in Pakistan to find out exact magnitude of disease.

In Pakistan, 74% of consanguineous marriages are among the first cousins. Continuity of consanguineous marriages over generations increases the risk of recessive diseases such as deafness. The objective of this study was to investigate genetic origin of Pakistani deaf brothers with parents of consanguineous marriage. ⋯ It is concluded that in addition to novel mutations in MYO7A, TH and EVC2, the CDH23 and GJB2 can also be responsible for deafness in the family with consanguineous marriages.

The sub hepatic drain is often placed after laparoscopic cholecystectomy is considered to affect post operative infection, pain and sub hepatic collections. The objective of this study was to compare the degree of postoperative pain in patients with routine drainage with those without it after elective, uncomplicated laparoscopic cholecystectomy. ⋯ Routine placement of sub hepatic drain in elective uncomplicated laparoscopic cholecystectomy should be avoided to reduce post-operative pain.

To make a comparison between standard doses of theophylline and caffeine for the treatment of apnea of prematurity. ⋯ Results of our study revealed that caffeine being more effective than Theophylline for treating apnea of prematurity.

Educational intervention to improve the knowledge of hand hygiene in pediatric residents and nurses.
To assess the improvement in the knowledge of hand hygiene in Pediatric residents and nurses after theoretical and hands-on educational intervention. ⋯ There is statistically significant impact of educational intervention on improving the knowledge of Pediatric residents and nurses with respect to hand hygiene practices.
