This study aimed to examine the pattern of emergency department (ED) visits by Hajj patients and determine the urgency of emergency visits at an advanced healthcare center. ⋯ During Hajj, a significant proportion of patients who visited the ED at the ultimate healthcare facility were discharged within 24 hours, with a higher rate in the morning-afternoon period. Both admitted and discharged cases required equal levels of care. Therefore, an extension in working days at primary care centers and optimization of advanced healthcare facilities during Hajj is currently warranted.

White blood cell (WBC) count to mean platelet volume (MPV) ratio (WMR) is associated with major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTEMI). We aimed to compare WMR between NSTEMI patients and matched-controls and to evaluate its predictive value on SYNTAX score. ⋯ WMR value was significantly elevated in NSTEMI patients, compared to controls. Higher WMR was associated with greater SYNTAX score in patients with NSTEMI. WMR may be used to predict severity of the CAD and to implement risk stratification in patients with NSTEMI.

To compare the difference in peripapillary Retinal Nerve Fibre Layer (RNFL) thickness between normal population and Type-II diabetic patients without diabetic retinopathy using Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (SD OCT). ⋯ Diabetic patients have thin RNFL as compared to normal individuals, and must be taken in account while making diagnosis of any disease based on thinning of RNFL.

Purpose of this study was to find out frequency of anemia and its causes in newly diagnosed treatment naive lymphoma patients. ⋯ Anemia is a common feature in newly diagnosed lymphoma patients with anemia of chronic disease as the commonest cause. It is more frequent in patients with higher stages of lymphoma especially when bone marrow is involved by lymphoma. Since anemia is an important adverse prognostic factor for the outcome of lymphoma patients, work up for anemia prior to initiation of chemotherapy should be done in every lymphoma patient in order to help improve the management of these patients.

To determine frequency of hepatitis-C in dialysis patients at start of hemodialysis, seroconversion from HCV negative to HCV positive over study duration and factors affecting seroconversion. ⋯ Frequency of HCV seroconversion among chronic hemodialysis patient is found to be 53.37%. Arteriovenous access, number of dialysis, reuse of dialyzer and blood transfusions are important risk factors.
