A 26-year-old male was referred to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of a tertiary care hospital in Lahore with chief complaint of painless swelling on the right palate of 40 days duration. Clinical differential diagnosis included squamous cell carcinoma, Ewing sarcoma, fibrosarcoma, neuroblastoma and rhabdomyosarcoma. ⋯ Histological examination of the excised tumor revealed malignant neoplasm arranged in fascicles and bundles comprising of spindle cells with pleomorphic, hyperchromatic nuclei and increased atypical mitosis. Immunohistochemical analysis showed negative staining with Cytokeratin, S100, CD34, Stat6, h-Caldesmon and EMA while the tumour cells were positive for desmin, myogenin, smooth muscle actin, CD-99 and MyoD1 thus confirming the diagnosis of spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma.

This study asseses the association of overactive bladder symptoms and pelvic organ prolapse severity and evaluates the effect of pelvic reconstructive surgery on overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms in women with pelvic organ prolapse (POP). It also looks into any pre and post-operative factors responsible for persistent postoperative OAB symptoms. ⋯ Surgical correction of POP results in significant improvement in symptoms of OAB, in all stages of POP and co-existing OAB. However women with high BMI and post-operative constipation may be prone to persistent frequency and/or UUI.

This study was aimed to illustrate the determents of consanguinity and inbreeding coefficient-F (ICF) in the population of Okara district of Pakistan and to elucidate the impact of consanguinity on fertility and birth outcome. ⋯ The prevalence of consanguineous unions (CU) in Okara district is quite high like other inbred populations of Pakistan. The striking findings of this study are the higher mean fertility and mean live-births in women with CU. The likely reasons underlying this phenomenon have been discussed.

To detect ZIKV using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) among clinical samples tested negative for Dengue virus (DENV) by RT-PCR in Punjab, 2016. ⋯ At study time, no samples were positive for ZIKV. Strengthening laboratory capacity to confirm arboviruses for Punjab's laboratories is warranted. Trioplex RT-PCR has 100% sensitivity so there are nominal chances of false negative results. Establishing syndromic surveillance for Zika and conducting a sero-surveillance survey for Zika in areas with high human and Aedes mosquito density are recommended in Punjab.
