The Zurich Chronic Middle Ear Questionnaire (ZCMEI-21) is a newly-developed German-language questionnaire. The purpose of this study was to analyze the quality of life (QoL) of chronic otitis media (COM) patients and translate, transculturally adapt, and validate the ZCMEI-21 into Turkish. ⋯ The ZCMEI-21 was translated into Turkish and validated. Therefore, the ZCMEI-21-Tur was suitable for use in assessing HRQoL in adult patients with COM.

Filaggrin is a protein complex involved in epidermal differentiation and skin barrier formation. Mutations of the filaggrin gene (FLG) are associated with allergen sensitization and allergic diseases like atopic dermatitis (AD), allergic rhinitis, food allergy (FA), and asthma. The aim of the study is to reveal the frequency of change in the FLG gene and determine the association between FLG loss-of-function (LOF) mutations and FA and/or AD in Turkish children. ⋯ Although R501X, 2282del4, R2447X, and S3247X mutations are very common in European populations, we found that FLG mutations were infrequent and there is no significant association with food allergy and/or atopic dermatitis in Turkish individuals.

Dyspnea is the subjective feeling of breathing discomfort, which is a significant problem for patients with heart and respiratory disease and also an important determinant of exercise tolerance, quality of life, and mortality in various diseases. Most of the scales are not enough to investigate the multidimensional effects of dyspnea; therefore, the Multidimensional Dyspnea Profile (MDP) was developed and validated in many languages. This study aimed to translate and culturally adapt the MDP into Turkish and investigate the psychometric properties of this adapted version in outpatients with respiratory disease. ⋯ The MDP was successfully translated and culturally adapted into Turkish and this version showed good psychometric properties including the factorial structure, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and construct validity to assess multidimensional aspects of dyspnea.

This study aimed to examine serum paraoxonase 1 and 3 (PON1 and PON3) activities in benign and malignant diseases of the prostate, to determine lipid profile and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, and to investigate changes in levels following robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RALRP). ⋯ An increase in free oxygen radicals in the body or a decrease in endogenous antioxidant enzyme levels can result in malignant and benign diseases of the prostate. Surgical excision of malignant tissue in PCa causes a decrease in oxidative stress.

Malnutrition is common in patients with nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), especially in the end stages of the disease where heart failure symptoms predominate. Malnutrition has been associated with atherosclerosis in patients with chronic kidney disease, but it is unknown whether a similar relationship exists between malnutrition and coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD). In the present study, we aimed to analyse whether indices of malnutrition were associated with coronary flow reserve (CFR) in patients with DCM. ⋯ Our findings indicate that not malnutrition per se but a combination of inflammation activation and malnutrition is predictive of CMD in patients with DCM.
