When reading a chest CT, a radiologist needs to evaluate each rib one by one due to complex curvy shape, which makes reporting a tiresome and time-consuming task. A new curved planar reformat application that flattens ribs on a single plane may find a place in the radiology reporting room. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a two-image set created by using the rib-flattening application on the performance of a radiologist in detecting sclerotic rib lesions in cancer patients. ⋯ Based on improved agreement levels, reading times, and diagnostic validity indices we conclude that a two-image set consisting of an axial and a coronal flattened-rib image may be used in conjunction with an ordinary exam.

The most appropriate surgical management of follicular neoplasm/suspicious for follicular neoplasm (FN) lesions is still contradictory. We aimed to evaluate the data of our patients with follicular neoplasm treated with thyroidectomy. ⋯ Since most FN cytology has been pathologically diagnosed with papillary cancer and some papillary cancer subtypes have been unfavorable pathologically, total thyroidectomy should be the most suitable treatment option in this group. Lobectomy with LwI is not suitable for patients with FNAB-proven FN cytology.

The aim of this study was to investigate the medium- to long-term effects of radiofrequency (RF) ablation of genicular nerves for chronic refractory knee pain due to osteoarthritis (OA). ⋯ In chronic refractory knee pain due to OA, the application of RF ablation to the genicular nerve is an effective and safe treatment option in the medium to long term.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common disease characterized by persistent airflow limitation and respiratory symptoms. It is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality all over the world. Our data on COPD in Turkey are limited. This study was intended to examine the epidemiologic characteristics of COPD in the Turkish population, between 2012 and 2016. ⋯ COPD is a very common and serious cause of morbidity and mortality in Turkey, as it is worldwide. Current data will contribute to a better understanding of the epidemiologic dimension of COPD in our country.

Avascular necrosis (AVN) is the death of bone due to compromise of blood flow. The etiology of AVN is multifactorial; corticosteroid usage is the second most significant factor after trauma, and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is the most common underlying disease. The objective of this study was to assess the factors of AVN in SLE patients. ⋯ The hypothesis of our study was that an alternate day steroid regimen may decrease AVN frequency in SLE patients.
