Observational Study
Prospective analysis of intoxicated patients developing shock and/or organ failure.
Data on intoxication patients with shock and acute organ failure is valuable for the prediction of the tailored scale prognosis of the patients in the emergency department. ⋯ The organic phosphate poisoning severity score can partially help us to predict the prognosis in all poisoning patients at the time of the first presentation. Emergency physicians may consider the development of hypotension, high creatine, lactate, base excess, low bicarbonate, and blood pH to be associated with a poor prognosis in the first hours of admission in acute poisoning patients. In these patients, it was predicted that the addition of selected extracorporeal methods without delay, in addition to the treatments that should be applied, may increase the survival rate.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders in childhood, is diagnosed clinically by assessing the symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Also, there are limited objective assessment tools to support the diagnosis. Thus, in this study, a new electrooculography (EOG) based on visual stimulus tracking to support the diagnosis of ADHD was proposed. ⋯ The findings showed that the proposed system could be helpful to support the diagnosis of ADHD and the follow-up of the treatment.

It is not always possible to determine the causative basis of pregnancy losses and even today it has been reported that 50% of cases with recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) have no reason to be detected. In our study, it is aimed to reveal the copy number variations (CNVs) of the genes which presumably have a potential effect in individuals with RPL and contribute to subsequent functional studies in the follow-up. ⋯ CNVs that may play a role in the genetic etiology of idiopathic RPL were revealed in our study and potential chromosomal loci were introduced to the literature for further analysis. The detection of CNVs and their association with reproduction such as RPL, infertility, and even other diseases will allow us to have more information about the clinical consequences and will make it possible to provide more accurate and comprehensive genetic counseling.

Alpha-1 antitrypsin (α1-AT) is a protease inhibitor that is largely released from liver cells. It inhibits neutrophil elastase and its deficiency increases the risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The frequency of α1-AT deficiency has been reported with different prevalence rates in different parts of the world. The most common α1-AT variant causing α1-AT deficiency is the Pi*Z allele. In this study, we aimed to determine the frequency of the α1-AT genotypic variant in COPD patients in our country. ⋯ In this study, which investigated the genotypic α1-AT variant frequency in COPD patients for the first time in our country, we found that the percentage of homozygous Pi*ZZ patients was 0.51%, but when heterozygous α1-AT gene variant and single point mutation were included, the frequency was 7.1%. At the same time, while the Pi*S variant was never detected, rare variants were found more frequently than expected.

Acute kidney injury is strongly associated with mortality in critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19); however, age-related risk factors for acute kidney injury are not clear yet. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the effects of clinical factors on acute kidney injury development in an elderly COVID-19 patients. ⋯ Frailty is a risk factor for acute kidney injury in geriatric patients with severe COVID-19. The evaluation of geriatric patients based on a frailty scale before intensive care unit admission may improve outcomes.
