Morphological differences that can lead the trigeminal nerve to neurovascular conflict and a new solitary pontine lesion are associated with the pathogenesis of trigeminal neuralgia (TN). In this case-control study, we aimed to contribute to the current discussions about the pathogenesis of TN by investigating the anatomical structures that may have an effect on the morphometric parameters of the trigeminal nerve. ⋯ The cerebellopontine cistern volume has a significant impact on the morphometric characteristics of the trigeminal nerve. Especially, whether the increase in the volume of pons causes a decrease in the volume of cerebellopontine cistern should be clarified with further research.

Pericytes are mesenchymal cells surrounding capillary vessels and are known to play an essential role in tumor angiogenesis. Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan 4 (CSPG4) is a cell surface proteoglycan and its release from pericytes and vascular smooth muscle cells is very important in tumor angiogenesis. Bevacizumab, which is a monoclonal antibody frequently used in the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer, binds to the ligand of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) and inhibits tumor angiogenesis. However, no reliable biomarker for predicting patients that will show a good response to this therapy has been established yet. In this study, we aimed to identify the significance of the presence of pericyte and VEGFA and CSPG4 expressions on the efficacy of Bevacizumab. ⋯ Our results suggested that bevacizumab may be more effective in patients having less vascular density in the tumor tissue. But further studies are needed to support this finding.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) mostly manifests with fever, shortness of breath, and cough, has also been found to cause some neurological symptoms, such as anosmia and ageusia. The aim of the study was to present the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of patients with anosmia-hyposmia symptoms and to discuss potential mechanisms in light of these findings. ⋯ This study revealed that there is a relationship between anosmia and MRI findings. Larger studies can enlighten the pathophysiological mechanism and shed light on both diagnosis and new treatments.

Do we need postoperative antibiotics in supratentorial clean neurosurgery? A prospective, randomized, single-blind, and placebo-controlled study.
To assess the efficacy of postoperative antibiotics on postoperative infection in clean supratentorial craniotomies. ⋯ Our results showed that antibiotic prophylaxis after a clean supratentorial craniotomy has no effect on the prevention of postoperative infection and we do not suggest using antibiotic prophylaxis after clean supratentorial neurosurgery.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an idiopathic, chronic inflammatory disease with multiple genetic and a variety of environmental risk factors. Although current drugs significantly aid in controlling the disease, many people have led to the application of complementary therapies due to the common belief that they are natural and safe, as well as due to the consideration of the side effect of current drugs. ⋯ In addition, the lack of complete and controlled long-term studies with the use of these complementary medicines regarding drug metabolism pose additional risk and unsafety. Thus, this review aims to give an overview of the potential interactions of drug-metabolizing enzymes with the complementary botanical medicines used in UC, drawing attention to possible adverse effects.
