Thoracic paravertebral block (TPVB) is a well-established procedure for the management of postoperative pain in patients undergoing video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS). In recent years, there have been studies suggesting that fascial plane blocks may be an alternative to TPVB. The objective of our study was to determine the efficacy of combined deep and superficial serratus anterior block (C-SAPB) as an alternative to TPVB in the management of postoperative analgesia in VATS. ⋯ Similar analgesic efficacy was observed between C-SAPB and TPVB. TPVB maintains its place among the first choices in VATS. The efficacy of C-SAPB is comparable to that of TPVB. While the duration of C-SAPB application is not a significant factor, the brief nature of the procedure and its straightforward administration suggest that it may be an effective method.

Proinflammatory chemokines have been shown to play crucial roles in implantation, spiral artery invasion, and the fetomaternal immunological response. In this context, we investigated the levels of fractalkine (CX3CL1) and chemokine CC motif ligand 4 (CCL4 or MIP-1β) in maternal serum and amniotic fluids in pregnant women with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). ⋯ Elevated levels of proinflammatory factors, including fractalkine and MIP-1β, along with inflammatory factors such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IFN-γ, as well as increased HIF-1α levels in amniotic fluid, are associated with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) attributed to a hypoxic amniotic environment.

Herein, we describe a new technique to obtain both the appropriate degree of rotation angle and the ideal nasal bridge length. The aim of this study is to investigate the long-term results of this new technique with regard to these two variables. ⋯ Internal caudal mucosal resection with a suspension of the LLC to the caudal edge of the upper lateral cartilages (ULC) offers a reliable method to control the nasal tip rotation and shorten the long noses. This technique's effect is more obvious in long noses compared to the short ones.

Data on the prevalence of allergic diseases in children with proven drug allergies are limited. We aim to evaluate the frequency of allergic comorbidity in children with proven common drug allergies. ⋯ Nearly half (44.6%) of the children with proven drug hypersensitivity had concomitant allergic diseases and immediate reactions were more common in this group. Children evaluated for drug hypersensitivity should be assessed for other allergic diseases.

Türkiye is a country with an increasing life expectancy and an older adult population in parallel with the rest of the world. Several national small-scale studies were performed regarding the prevalence and characteristics of dementia in Türkiye, and the results of these studies differ from each other. We aimed to determine the prevalence of dementia in Türkiye to present the demographic characteristics, the frequency of use of health services, and the management of dementia. ⋯ The prevalence of patients living with dementia in Türkiye is lower than the global average. This suggests that most dementia cases are overlooked, highlighting the need to raise dementia awareness both in the community and among primary health care providers who frequently encounter older individuals. The study is significant in that it is the first to show the nationwide frequency of dementia in Türkiye.
