Diabetes mellitus, characterized by hyperglycemia, causes various complications, one of which is memory dysfunction. The frontal lobe is known to be responsible for impaired memory function due to hyperglycemia and is associated with oxidative stress-mediated neuronal cell apoptosis. Chlorogenic acid (CGA) is reported to have neuroprotective effects. However, its effect on the frontal lobe in diabetes mellitus (DM) rats is not widely known. This research aimed to elucidate the effect of CGA on the mRNA expressions of SOD1, SOD2, p53, and Bcl-2 in the frontal lobe of DM rats. ⋯ Chlorogenic acid might improve memory function through upregulation of frontal lobes' SOD1, SOD2, and Bcl-2 mRNA expression in DM rats.

Breast cancers are one of the most common cancers in women and are responsible for many deaths worldwide. Mast cells are inflammatory cells. Their role in cancers is controversial, and there is limited data on systemic mast cell activation in cancer cases. This study aimed to evaluate systemic mast cell activation in an experimentally induced rat model of breast cancer. ⋯ This study demonstrated for the first time that systemic mast cell activation develops in both tumoral and mesenteric tissues in an experimental cancer model. However, it is not known at which stage of tumor development it occurs.

The evolution of sickle cell disease (SCD) is marked by the occurrence of painful episodes linked to the obstruction of microvessels by sickle cells, known as vaso-occlusive crisis (VOC). The aim of this work was to report the practical aspects of the management of acute pain in adults with SCD. Recommendations based on these practices are also provided. ⋯ Wide variability was observed in the modalities of analgesic treatment of sickle cell VOC. These variations reflect different views on the appropriateness of opioids. This study highlights the efficacy of multimodal analgesia in the management of acute pain in patients with SCD, particularly in regard to morphine sparing. Context-specific recommendations will be needed to harmonize practices.

The effect of video-assisted training on upper extremity problems and functions after rotator cuff repair: a randomized controlled trial.
The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, and is frequently exposed to injuries. The applied surgical treatments, protection of the shoulder after surgery, care in the use of the shoulder in activities of daily living (ADLs) and gradual exercise programs are all vital to the recovery process. The present study investigates the effect of video-assisted training (VAT) on upper extremity complications and functions after rotator cuff repair (RCR). ⋯ VAT can increase function in RCR patients. Healthcare professionals, especially nurses, can use the VAT method to improve shoulder function in patients after RCR.
