Increase in publications supporting myocardial involvement in the COVID-19 disease has led to need to gain insight into the the global burden of heart failure after pandemic. We examined the course of myocardial systolic function in patients without elevated troponin levels. ⋯ Considering patients without elevated troponin levels during COVID-19 infection, no permanent systolic dysfunction was detected after first month of recovery. We found that transient myocardial dysfunction may develop in the severe illness group with normal troponin levels, LVEF may decrease in the acute phase and improve with the recovery period.

In this study, we aimed to evaluate whether morphological changes in the mesencephalon, which were previously described as a diagnostic tool for progressive supranuclear palsy, could be associated also with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephal ⋯ Hummingbird sign can be used to support the diagnosis of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus in addition to other radiological findings. A significant correlation between vascular compression and hummingbird sign in the patient group may explain the morphological changes in the mesencephalon that resemble the Hummingbird sign, which was previously described for progressive supranuclear palsy.

To investigate the correlation between depressive-anxiety symptoms, mixed features, disease activity, and functional status in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in the light of the shared underlying etiology in both disorders. ⋯ Disease severity and functional status in RA can be affected by comorbid anxiety-depressive and mixed symptoms. Therefore, clinicians should consider screening the depressive-anxiety and mixed mood symptoms of RA patients. Moreover, patients who use steroid therapy are more susceptible to mood symptoms (anxiety, depression, bipolarity), which should also be considered during the follow-up of patients.

Plastic biliary stents that remain in situ for more than 12 months, called forgotten biliary stents (FBSs), can cause complications such as cholangitis, stent migration, stent occlusion, and perforation. ⋯ FBSs are potentially problematic particularly in elderly patients. Communication with the patient to remind them of the need for stent management is important for preventing FBSs.

Chitotriosidase and YKL-40, also called chitinase 3-like protein 1, are homologs of family 18 glycosyl hydrolases, secreted by human macrophages and granulocytes under inflammatory conditions. Although increased levels of chitotriosidase and YKL-40 are linked with several inflammatory diseases, the physiological utility of these two enzymes is still not fully characterized. This study aims to analyse the serum YKL-40 and chitotriosidase levels of acute pancreatitis patients to assess whether their activity correlates with acute pancreatitis and its severity. ⋯ Elevated YKL-40 and chitotriosidase levels in acute pancreatitis patients demonstrate the importance of possible macrophage involvement in the pancreatic microenvironment during acute pancreatitis progression.
