Guided bone regeneration (GBR) is commonly performed to repair bone defects, and rigid occlusive titanium barriers play a vital role in bone formation in regions with no prior bone tissue. The statin, rosuvastatin (RSV), strongly affects bone apposition when applied locally. Here, we aimed to evaluate the anabolic effects of locally applied RSV with a xenograft placed on rabbit calvaria. ⋯ According to our results, RSV applied locally under a titanium barrier on an area to be repaired with bone grafts increases new bone and total bone volume.

In the last years, incidence of carbapenem resistant Acinetobacter baumannii sepsis is increasing with high mortality. However, it is not clear whether this is due to inadequate antimicrobial choice or a more severe clinical course. We aimed to evaluate the inflammation and adrenal involvement in the carbapenem resistant A. baumannii by using experimental mouse model sepsis. ⋯ Adrenal involvement and inflammatory reactions are seen in E. coli sepsis and in CRAB sepsis. These findings will be focused on in future clinical trials.

There is limited information about peripheral blood eosinophilia (PBE) and airway obstruction in sarcoidosis. Since pulmonary sarcoidosis affects the airways, it is often confused with asthma. The aims of the study are to investigate airway obstruction and PBE in sarcoidosis patients and to examine the similarity of clinical presentation with asthma. ⋯ Mild PBE may be seen in sarcoidosis. Patients applying with PBE, airway obstruction, bronchial hyperreactivity along with spring fever, eczema, skin/nose allergy, wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath and cough may be also evaluated in terms of sarcoidosis.

This study aimed to investigate pregnancy frequency and evaluate the factors affecting live births in hemodialysis (HD) patients. ⋯ For the first time, we reported pregnancy outcomes in HD female patients, covering all regions of Turkey. It has been observed that; increasing the number of HD sessions in dialysis patients will decrease fetal and maternal complications and increase live birth rates.

The aim of this study is to determine the risk of cancer in the patients with primary Sjögren syndrome (pSS) from a single-center in Turkey. ⋯ The risk of hematological and solid cancers was higher in the patients with pSS when compared to general population. In our pSS cohort, the risk for ovarian cancer was found to be increased, which has not been previously reported in the literature.
