Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is closely associated with atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (ASCVD). The objective of this study was to describe the degree of ASCVD risk factor control and their association with carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) in T2DM patients followed up at a diabetes clinic in Southern, Sri Lanka. ⋯ The majority of patients have not achieved the recommended targets for ASCVD risk factors and are at high risk of ASCVD. It is therefore necessary to identify the reasons for not achieving the treatment targets in order to reduce the ASCVD burden by controlling LDL-C, TG, and NAFLD.

There are no current guidelines to help clinicians decide whether patients with adult neuromuscular disease (NMD) should be screened or treated for osteoporosis (OP). This study was undertaken to investigate the presence of OP in patients with various types of NMD and to examine the relationship between OP evaluation parameters and functional status, daily living activities, balance, and ambulation levels. ⋯ OP is often overlooked in NMD patients with neurological problems and a high risk of falling. These patients should be screened for bone health and fragility.

Herein, we describe a new technique to obtain both the appropriate degree of rotation angle and the ideal nasal bridge length. The aim of this study is to investigate the long-term results of this new technique with regard to these two variables. ⋯ Internal caudal mucosal resection with a suspension of the LLC to the caudal edge of the upper lateral cartilages (ULC) offers a reliable method to control the nasal tip rotation and shorten the long noses. This technique's effect is more obvious in long noses compared to the short ones.

Although high muscle strength worsens the sense of force, it is unknown whether there is a relationship between this deterioration and the underlying molecular mechanisms. This study examined the relationship between decreased force sense (FS) acuity and strength-related gene expressions. ⋯ The time points of gene expression levels during exercise need to be considered. The force acuity of those whose maximal force develops too much may deteriorate.

Individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS) may experience various speech-related issues, including decreased speech rate, increased pauses, and changes in speech rhythms. The purpose of this study was to compare the volumes of speech-related neuroanatomical structures in MS patients with those in a control group. ⋯ In our study, volume measurements of more speech-related areas were performed, unlike the few related studies previously conducted. We observed significant atrophy findings in the speech-related areas of the frontal, temporal, and parietal lobes of MS patients.
