The respiratory muscles of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exhibit structural and functional changes that can be evaluated and monitored by ultrasonography. ⋯ Diaphragmatic excursion, diaphragmatic end-expiratory thickness, and right and left intercostal muscle thicknesses vary in the prognosis of subjects presenting with COPD exacerbation.

Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic immune-mediated disease. Telemedicine is a healthcare technology used when a patient is separated by distance. The reliability of the Pediatric Eosinophilic Esophagitis Symptom Score, version 2.0 (PEESS v2.0) for telemedicine applications, has not been studied yet. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the reliability of PEESS v2.0 for telemedicine. ⋯ Unsynchronized telesurvey use of PEESS v2.0 is unreliable both for children and parents. We suggest testing the reliability of chosen telemedicine methods before using them in clinical and research practice.

To investigate the impact of smoking on disease activity, treatment retention, and response in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) treated with their first tumor necrosis factor-α inhibitor (TNFi). ⋯ This study suggested that smoking was associated with poorer patient-reported outcomes in biologic naïve AS patients initiating their first TNFi treatment, but it had no impact on the TNFi treatment response and retention rate.

To describe the disease activity and retention rate in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients with inadequate response (IR) to conventional synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (csDMARDs) and/or tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFis) who were prescribed tocilizumab (TCZ) as first-line or second-line biologic treatment in real-world setting. ⋯ TCZ was found to be effective and safe in RA patients with IR to csDMARDs and/or TNFis. The drug retention rate was considered satisfactory with more than half of the patients continuing TCZ treatment at Month 12.

Clinical characteristics and outcomes of continuous renal replacement therapy performed on younger children weighing up to 10 kg.
This study aimed to investigate the clinical features, modality, complications, and effecting factors on the survival of children weighing up to 10 kg who received continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). ⋯ Despite its complexity, CRRT in children weighing less than 10 kg is a beneficial, lifesaving extracorporeal treatment modality.
