Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Effects of oral/enteral nutrition alone versus plus pantoprazole on gastrointestinal bleeding in critically ill patients with low risk factor: A multicenter, randomized controlled trial.
Critically ill patients are at risk of developing gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding due to stress causing mucosal damage. Aim of the study was to determine the effect of oral/enteral nutrition with or without concomitant pantoprazole on upper GI bleeding in low risk critically ill patients. ⋯ Our findings seems to indicate that in patients who are at low risk for GI bleeding and under oral/enteral nutritional support, the use of PPIs may not reduce the risk of bleeding, however these results are imprecise because of low event (GI bleeding) rate and limited power.

To compare the effects of bilateral proximal tubal occlusion and bilateral total salpingectomy on ovarian reserve and the cholinergic system via rat experiment. ⋯ Compared to the bilateral proximal tubal occlusion performed by using bipolar cautery, bilateral total salpingectomy in rats leads to a significant damage in ovarian histopathology and the cholinergic system.

The effect of vitamin d status on different neuromuscular blocker agents reverse time.
This study is aimed to investigate the effects of vitamin D levels on sugammadex and neostigmine reversal times. ⋯ Vitamin D deficiency is important for anesthesiologists in terms of muscle strength and extubation time. Vitamin D deficiency seems to affect sugammadex reverse times but seems not to affect neostigmine reverse times. This conclusion needs further studies.

Efficacy of Hijamat (wet cupping therapy) in Iranian patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease: a controlled clinical trial
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is known to be the most prevalent chronic liver disease all over the world. The incidence of this disease has dramatically increased during the last decade. Studies have shown a strong relationship between the level of ferritin and the severity of NAFLD. The objective of the present study was to assess the effect of adding Hijamat, as an iron reducing procedure, to standard lifestyle modification on the improvement of insulin resistance and liver enzymes in patients with NAFLD. ⋯ Hijamat resulted in a relative improvement in fatty liver severity and improved HOMA-IR and liver enzymes more than lifestyle modification alone in patients with NAFLD.

Adnexal torsion is a common gynaecological emergency, and considered to be a problem mostly in reproductive-age women. To evaluatethe effect of metformin and detorsion treatment on reducing ovarian reserve in an ovarian torsion model. ⋯ Metformin+detorsion treatment may be effective in protecting the ovarian reserve after ovarian torsion.
