To assess the relationship between regional brain volume changes and traumatic brain injury (TBI) severity in patients with and without focal lesions. ⋯ Patterns of parenchymal volumetric changes can differentiate among levels of traumatic brain injury (TBI) severity, even in mild TBI. TBI causes a spatially extensive pattern of volume loss that reflects independent but overlapping contributions of focal and diffuse injury.

The history of progressive muscular atrophy: syndrome or disease?
Since its first description more than a century ago, there has been much debate about the diagnostic entity progressive muscular atrophy (PMA). Initially, PMA included all forms of progressive amyotrophy. ⋯ In contrast, several observations provided evidence that PMA can be linked both clinically and pathologically to ALS. Therefore, PMA should be considered as a syndromal subtype within a clinical spectrum of motor neuron diseases.

Endovascular treatment of idiopathic intracranial hypertension: clinical and radiologic outcome of 10 consecutive patients.
To explore the relation between venous disease and idiopathic intracranial hypertension. ⋯ The importance of venous sinus disease in the etiology of idiopathic intracranial hypertension is probably underestimated. Patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension in whom a venous sinus stenosis is demonstrated by a noninvasive radiologic workup should be evaluated with direct retrograde cerebral venography and manometry. In patients with a lesion of the venous sinuses who experienced medical treatment failure, endovascular stent placement seems to be an interesting alternative to classic surgical approaches.
