Thrombolytic treatment has been shown to be effective in the treatment of ischemic stroke when initiated within 3 hours of symptom onset, yet few patients receive thrombolytics. ⋯ Campaigns that educate patients to seek treatment sooner should be major components of system-wide interventions to increase rates of thrombolysis for acute ischemic stroke.

Migraine, particularly with aura, is a risk factor for early-onset ischemic stroke. The underlying mechanisms are unknown, but may in part be due to migraineurs having an increased risk profile for cardiovascular disease. In this study, the authors compare the cardiovascular risk profile of adult migraineurs to that of nonmigraineurs. ⋯ Migraineurs, particularly with aura, have a higher cardiovascular risk profile than individuals without migraine.
