Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyLong-term results of maintenance treatment of mitomycin C or alternating mitomycin C and bacillus Calmette-Guérin instillation therapy of patients with carcinoma in situ of the bladder: a subgroup analysis of the prospective FinnBladder 2 study with a 17-year follow-up.
Only a few studies with a long-term follow-up exist on patients with carcinoma in situ (CIS) treated with instillation therapy. The objective was to study the long-term outcome of patients with CIS after mitomycin C (MMC) monotherapy or alternating therapy with MMC and bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG). ⋯ The long-term bladder cancer-specific mortality was unexpectedly low despite the relatively ineffective instillation therapy and the poor outcome of the patients after progression.

Randomized Controlled TrialPosterior and anterior fixation of the urethra during robotic prostatectomy improves early continence rates.
To investigate whether posterior and anterior fixation of the vesicourethral anastomosis during robotic radical prostatectomy (RRP) helps to establish continence earlier. ⋯ The posterior and anterior fixation of the vesicourethral anastomosis during RRP results in an intact sphincteric mechanism, because no stretch is applied to the urethra, resulting in earlier continence.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyLornoxicam in extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy; comparison with tenoxicam and placebo in terms of analgesic consumption.
To assess the analgesic efficacy of lornoxicam and compare it with that of tenoxicam in patients undergoing extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy (ESWL) for renal stones. ⋯ In patients undergoing ESWL the i.v. administration of a single dose of 8 mg lornoxicam provides significantly better pain control compared with tenoxicam 20 mg and placebo, without increasing adverse side-effects.

Randomized Controlled TrialEvaluation of a non-invasive bladder volume measurement in children.
Postoperative urinary retention (PUR) is associated with overdistension of the bladder. The prevention of PUR by routine catheterization may increase the risk of urinary tract infection. Postoperative monitoring of the bladder volume by ultrasound to prevent PUR is reliable in adults, but has not been evaluated in children. ⋯ This study could not confirm good agreement between the ultrasound-estimated volumes and the injected volumes at volumes below 5 ml/kg. Bladder volumes were underestimated with a very broad 95% confidence interval. The ultrasound device should not replace current clinical assessment.

Randomized Controlled TrialEfficacy of tamsulosin in medical expulsive therapy for distal ureteral calculi.
To evaluate the potential role of tamsulosin in the medical treatment of distal ureteral stones. ⋯ Our study reveals the efficacy of tamsulosin for the treatment of distal ureteral stones. Tamsulosin should be added to the standard medical approach for treating these stones.
