Effect of noise block using earplugs on propofol sedation requirement during extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy.
To determine effect of noise block using earplugs on reducing propofol infusion needed to maintain a constant bispectral index (BIS) values in patients undergoing extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). ⋯ Noise diminution in ambient operating room can reduce the amount of propofol needed to maintain light sedation during ESWL.

Bronchodilator effect of Ipraterol on methacholine-induced bronchoconstriction in asthmatic patients.
The addition of ipratropium, a synthetic cholinergic antagonist, to beta2-agonist therapy provides an additive improvement in adult with acute severe asthma and COPD because of increased vagal tone in the airways. We asked whether ipratropium in combination with fenoterol (Ipraterol) improved pulmonary function in comparison with original Berodual. ⋯ Our data suggest that nebulized Ipraterol offers a statistically significant improvement in pulmonary function without significant systemic absorption causing hypokalemia, with the improvement being comparable to that achieved with nebulized Berodual.

Morinda citrifolia Linn. for prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting.
To be a preliminary, prospective, randomized double blinded, placebo-controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy of Morinda citrifolia Linn or noni for the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) in patients considered high risk for PONV after various types of surgery. ⋯ Morinda citrifolia Linn. has an antiemetic property and prophylactic noni extract at 600 mg (equivalent to 20g of dried noni fruit or scopoletin 8.712 microg) effectively reduces the incidence of early postoperative nausea (0-6 hours).

General anesthesia with thoracic paravertebral block for modified radical mastectomy.
To evaluate the effect of single-injection paravertebral block (PVB) combined with general anesthesia on 24-hour postoperative morphine requirement in patients undergoing modified radical mastectomy (MRM). ⋯ PVB can reduce postoperative opioid requirement, pain, and severity of nausea and vomiting in MRM.

Efficacy of symptomatic control of knee osteoarthritis with 0.0125% of capsaicin versus placebo.
Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is prevalent and associated with both pain and functional disability. Current treatments aim to alleviate mild to moderate symptoms by various methods. Topical capsaicin (0.075% and 0.05%) has been evaluated for the treatment of the painful joints. A burning sensation was the most common side effect at these strengths. Therefore, the authors aimed to evaluate the efficacy of 0.0125% capsaicin gel (Capsika gel) compared to a placebo (the vehicle gel) in patients with symptomatic OA knee. ⋯ 0.0125% capsaicin gel was an effective treatment in mildly to moderately painful OA knees. The burning sensation reported by patients in the capsaicin group was less disturbing than in previous studies and none of the present patients withdrew for this reason.
