Randomized Controlled Trial
The post-operative analgesic efficacy of celecoxib compared with placebo and parecoxib after total hip or knee arthroplasty.
Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in combination with opioids is a model of multimodal analgesia. NSAIDs have the oral and parenteral forms. ⋯ Within 12 hours after total hip and knee arthroplasty, pre-operative administration of parenteral parecoxib 40 mg was more effective than oral celecoxib 400 mg and placebo in terms of morphine consumption and VNRS score.

Protocol-directed vs. physician-directed weaning from ventilator in intra-abdominal surgical patients.
Previous studies have demonstrated that protocol-directed weaning is better than physician-directed weaning in terms of shorter duration of mechanical ventilation in general critically ill patients. In this prospective, randomized controlled trial, the authors compared duration of mechanical ventilation between protocol based nurse-directed weaning and physician-directed weaning in patients following intra-abdominal surgery. ⋯ Daily screening of respiratory function in intra-abdominal surgical patients followed by trials ofspontaneous breathing performed by nurses resulted in a shorter duration of mechanical ventilation when compared to traditional physician-directed weaning.

Comparison of efficacy and effectiveness between ULTRACET and tramadol/acetaminophen in acute postoperative pain after upper extremity surgery.
To compare the efficacy and effectiveness between ULTRACE, a new analgesic combination of tramadol/ acetaminophen, and tramadol/acetaminophen for acute postoperative pain after upper extremity surgery. ⋯ ULTRACET has more efficacy and fewer side effects when compared with tramadol and acetaminophen in acute postoperative pain surgery.

Comparable clinical outcomes between glucosamine sulfate-potassium chloride and glucosamine sulfate sodium chloride in patients with mild and moderate knee osteoarthritis: a randomized, double-blind study.
Glucosamine sulfate has been recommended for treatment of knee osteoarthritis in several published guidelines. However, there are various preparations of glucosamine that may result in different pharmacokinetic and clinical outcomes. ⋯ In this short-term randomized comparison, glucosamine sulfate with potassium salt (GS-K) is as effective in pain relief and as safe as glucosamine sulfate with sodium salt (GS-Na) for treatment of mild and moderate degree knee osteoarthritis.

The bioequivalent and effect of nicotine formulation gum on smoking cessation.
To compare the absorption rate of nicotine in volunteer blood, and determine the clinical trial on smoking cessation. ⋯ The absorption rate of nicotine in volunteers' blood Nicomild-2 and Nicorette at 0, 15, 30, 40 minutes were 0, 51.84, 26.73, 21.012 and 0, 56.603, 21.83, 15.183 (ng/min). Both of them were found to have maximum absorption rate at 15 minutes. When comparing the maximum absorption rate at 15 minute of Nicomild-2 (sugar free) with Nicorette (sugar free) didn't have significant differences detected. Treatment with nicotine polyestex gum were reported 65.3% (130/199) at 4 weeks compared with failure 30.15% (60/199)[ 65.3% vs 30.15%; p = 0.005]. The authors found 9 (4.5%) subjects successfully quit smoking free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT).
