Randomized Controlled Trial
Oral rehydration with 10% carbohydrate drink for preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) after low dose of spinal morphine.
Preoperative oral carbohydrate (CHO) drink may improve patients' comfort. However, whether it prevents or reduces postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is questionable. ⋯ Preoperative oral rehydration with carbohydrate drinks had no positive effect on PONV nor patients' comfort.

The safety of propofol infusion compared to midazolam and meperidine intravenous bolus for patients undergoing double balloon enteroscopy.
The double balloon enteroscopy (DBE) procedure is long and requires moderate sedation. We aim to determine whether the administration of propofol infusion is safe by comparing it to intravenous midazolam/meperidine in patients undergoing DBE. ⋯ Propofol infusion is safe and shows no difference in outcome from the midazolam and meperidine sedation for the DBE procedure.

Effects of single shot femoral nerve block combined with intrathecal morphine for postoperative analgesia: a randomized, controlled, dose-ranging study after total knee arthroplasty.
Pain after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is severe, thus adequate pain control can be a challenge. Intrathecal morphine (ITM) provides excellent postoperative analgesia for TKA, but may have side effects. Femoral nerve block (FNB) also has been used for postoperative analgesia in TKA. We examined postoperative analgesia efficacy and side effects of ITM combined with single shot femoral nerve block (SSFNB) after TKA, over the dosage range of 0.0 to 0.3 mg. ⋯ The present study concluded that, low-dose ITM combination with SSFNB provided good pain relief with low side effects and reduced morphine consumption during the first 24 hours post TKA.

Desflurane concentrations and consumptions during low flow anesthesia.
Desflurane is the least soluble and most expensive inhalation agent. Hence, low flow technique is suitable for anesthesia with desflurane. However, one of the disadvantages of low flow technique is the discrepancy among the end-tidal concentration, inspired concentration, and vaporizer setting. ⋯ Using FGF 2 L x min(-1) has no advantage over FGF 1 L x min(-2), because they both have the similar FdDES. Regarding at FGF 0.5 and 1 L x min(-1), the delivered concentration has to be increased to obtain the desired expired concentration with more intense at FGF 0.5 L x min(-1) because there are more discrepancies between FdDES and FeDES.

Effect of intravenous fentanyl given prior to the end of surgery on emergence agitation in pediatric patients.
Evaluate the effect of intravenous fentanyl on the incidence and severity of EA. ⋯ Administration of intravenous fentanyl 1 microg/kg 15 minutes prior the end of surgery decreased the incidence of EA and reduced pain without delaying emergence and without any increase in postoperative complications.
