Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialA randomised controlled trial comparing transvaginal ultrasound, outpatient hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy with inpatient hysteroscopy and curettage.
To compare the use of outpatient and inpatient procedures in the investigation of abnormal uterine bleeding. ⋯ Transvaginal sonography and endometrial biopsy can safely be used as the initial investigations in the management of abnormal uterine bleeding. Hysteroscopy can be used as a second line investigation. Outpatient hysteroscopy with local anaesthesia is well tolerated although general anesthesia may occasionally be necessary.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialThe effect of indomethacin tocolysis in preterm labour on perinatal outcome: a randomised placebo-controlled trial.
To determine whether indomethacin tocolysis in preterm labour is associated with a better perinatal outcome than placebo. ⋯ There is no evidence that indomethacin tocolysis is beneficial, and further trials are needed to assess the impact of indomethacin tocolysis in preterm labour.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialThe haemodynamic effects of ketanserin versus dihydralazine in severe early-onset hypertension in pregnancy.
To compare the haemodynamic efficacy of ketanserin (a selective serotonin2-receptor blocker) with dihydralazine in the management of severe early-onset hypertension in pregnancy. ⋯ The antihypertensive profile of ketanserin is characterised by an early and gradual reduction of blood pressure in combination with a moderate decrease in systemic vascular resistance and no significant change in cardiac output. Dihydralazine causes market tachycardia resulting in a considerable increase in cardiac output.

To determine the indications for singleton caesarean sections in Scotland in 1994. ⋯ The survey has identified why caesarean sections are performed by Scottish obstetricians and highlighted some areas where there would be scope to increase the vaginal delivery rate. Before this can be attempted, agreement must be reached by clinicians about effective management of particular problems. Women also need to have ready access to evidenced-based information about caesarean section.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialA comparative study of safety and efficacy of continuous low dose oestradiol released from a vaginal ring compared with conjugated equine oestrogen vaginal cream in the treatment of postmenopausal urogenital atrophy.
To compare the safety, efficacy and acceptability of a continuous low dose oestradiol releasing vaginal ring with conjugated equine oestrogen vaginal cream in the treatment of postmenopausal urogenital atrophy. ⋯ With equivalent efficacy and safety and superior acceptability to vaginal cream, the low dose oestradiol vaginal ring is an advance in vaginal delivery systems for the treatment of urogenital atrophy.
