Randomized Controlled Trial[Effects of thymosin-alpha1 on cell immunity function in patients with septic shock].
To investigate the effects of thymosin-alpha1 on cell immunity function and outcome in the patients with septic shock. ⋯ Thymosin-alpha1 can improve cell immunity function in the patients with septic shock. The cell immunity function is one of the main factors in influencing the prognosis of septic shock.

Practice Guideline[Guidelines of hemodynamic monitor and support in adult patients with severe sepsis and septic shock (draft)].
Severe sepsis and septic shock are common causes of morbidity and mortality of intensive care unit (ICU) patients. There are an estimated 751,000 cases of severe sepsis each year in the US, with a mortality of 20%-63% and an annual health care cost of US$16.7 billion. Worldwide, 18 million cases of severe sepsis occur annually, killing approximately 1,400 people each day and a health care cost of US$9.4 billion in Europe alone. ⋯ It is important to outline a guideline for hemodynamic monitor and support in severe sepsis and septic shock patients to maintain adequate perfusion of organs and cellular oxygen uptake. A group of 9 critical care experts in the diagnosis and management of severe sepsis and septic shock, representing members of the Chinese Society of Critical Care Medicine (Chinese Medical Association), gathered together to develop this hemodynamic monitor and support guidelines to enable the bedside clinician to follow for the sake of improving the outcome in severe sepsis and septic shock patients. The recommendations, totally 21 items, are graded based on a modified Delphi methodology.

[Host immunosuppression in pathogenesis of sepsis and its clinical implication].
The excessive inflammatory response accompanied by a dramatic paralysis of cell-mediated immunity following severe trauma, shock and burns appears to be responsible for the increased susceptibility to subsequent sepsis. The mechanism of immunodepression is quite complicated, and it is clearly related to the primary injury or disease and also the treatment. ⋯ Data are accumulating to suggest that restoration of immune function is necessary for the recovery from sepsis and subsequent multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). A better understanding of the activated innate immunity and its physiological response will help to develop new therapeutical approaches aiming at modulating the immune response in conditions such as sepsis.

[Treatment effects of antithrombin-III on coagulation abnormalities in rats with endotoxaemia].
To study the treatment effects of antithrombin-III (AT-III) on coagulation abnormalities in rats with endotoxaemia. ⋯ These findings indicate that AT-III can be used to treat disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) in rats with endotoxaemia. Preventive use of AT-III in rats with endotoxaemia is therapeutically effective.
