[A protocol for diagnosis and treatment of Vibrio vulnificus sepsis].
Vibrio vulnificus sepsis is one of the most fatal disease with a high mortality which exceeds 50%. But at present there is no evidence-based guidelines for diagnosis and therapy of Vibrio vulnificus sepsis because of its dispersion in occurrence and low incidence. ⋯ This protocol will help improve the outcome of patients with Vibrio vulnificus sepsis. But it is a crude guideline and needs to be updated when some important new knowledge becomes available.

[Role of neuron specific enolase and S100 protein in evaluation of brain damage in patients resuscitated from cardiac arrest].
To investigate the prognostic value of serum neuron specific enolase (NSE) and S100 protein in evaluation of brain damage in patients resuscitated from cardiac arrest (CA). ⋯ Measurement of serum NSE and S100 protein concentrations can help judge the degree of brain damage and whether patients can regain consciousness after CPR. It will be more valuable to prognosticate a serious and continuous brain damage with dynamic observation of the serum NSE together with S100 protein.

[Protective effect of melatonin against renal dysfunction following severe burn in rats].
To explore the protective effect of melatonin (MLT) against renal dysfunction in the early stage of burn in rats. ⋯ Severe burn may result in obvious oxidative stress (within 72 hours postburn) in the kidney with acute renal dysfunction (within 24 hours postburn). Single injection of MLT partially counteracted these changes, due to its high free radical scavenging capacity as well as its inhibitory effect on neutrophil-mediated tissue injury.

[Change of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide and big endothelin in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting].
To examine the change in N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (Nt-proBNP) and big endothelin (big ET) in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), and to evaluate their value in predicting postoperative mortality and complication. ⋯ Significant increase in Nt-proBNP and ET is found after CABG. BNP and LVEF are showed to be risk factors for postoperative complications in patients undergoing CABG.

[Expression of tumor necrosis factor-alpha in myocardium and dorsal root ganglion of coronary artery occlusion in rats].
To observe the temporal expression of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) in myocardium and dorsal root ganglion (DRG) following ligation of the left anterior descending branch of coronary artery in the rats, and to explore the potential role of TNF-alpha in the neurogenic mechanisms induced by myocardial ischemia injury and the potential neurogenic mechanisms of acute local myocardial ischemia provoking global injuries of the heart. ⋯ CAO can provoke a significant increase in TNF-alpha and TNF-alpha mRNA in the myocardium (ischemic and non-ischemic) and DRG of rats. It demonstrates that acute myocardial ischemia, as a nociceptive stimulus, may activate the neurogenic reactions in body, and TNF-alpha might play an important role in the whole process, while the neurogenic mechanisms may contribute to the development of myocardial injury.
