Multicenter StudyEffects of cardiac rehabilitation on risk factor management and quality of life in patients with ischemic heart disease: A multicenter cross-sectional study.
While cardiac rehabilitation (CR) improves survival outcomes in patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD), the long‑ term benefits of short term programs are still discussed. ⋯ Cardiac rehabilitation is moderately effective if performed only once and without a continuous support program. Further efforts to increase referrals for CR in patients with IHD must be accompanied by a long‑ term strategy to sustain the beneficial effects.

Over time changes in the prevention of recurrent coronary artery disease in everyday practice.
Patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) are at high risk of recurrent cardiovascular events, and risk factor control is crucial in this population. ⋯ We observed an increase in the proportion of patients with CAD who were prescribed cardiovascular drugs, and consequently a slight improvement in the control of their blood pressure and low‑ density lipoprotein cholesterol. No changes were found regarding other main risk factors.

ReviewRecent advances in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome.
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic functional gastrointestinal disorder which presents with abdominal pain and altered bowel habits. It affects about 20% of the general population, mainly women, and has a considerable impact on the quality of life and health care costs. Four different entities of IBS have been identified: IBS with constipation (IBS‑ C), IBS with diarrhea (IBS D), IBS with a mixed pattern of constipation and diarrhea, and unclassified IBS. ⋯ Bulking agents and osmotic laxatives represent the first line therapy for IBS‑ C, while lubiprostone and linaclotide should be reserved for difficult to treat patients. The involvement of gastrointestinal microbiota constitutes a fascinating field of exploration as it offers the potential to be modulated by the use of probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics as well as fecal microbiota transplantation. This review offers an updated overview on the recent advances in the treatment of IBS.

The function of the heart after successful transcatheter mitral valve repair due to severe functional regurgitation.
The function of the heart after successful transcatheter edge‑to‑edge mitral valve repair (TMVR) remains not fully investigated. ⋯ Our data indicate that no improvement of heart strains can be expected after suc-cessful TMVR in the short‑term follow‑up, and the function of the LA may even deteriorate in some subpopulations.
