Comparative StudyPLATELET INDICES AND LIVER FIBROSIS EVALUATION IN CHRONIC HEPATITIS C.
Recently, several studies have reported that the mean platelet volume and platelet distribution width may give information about liver fibrosis severity in chronic hepatitis C. The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether platelet indices correlate with hepatic fibrosis measured by transient elastography in patients with chronic hepatitis C. ⋯ Increased platelet indices were associated with advanced liver fibrosis stages evaluated by transient elastography in patients with chronic hepatitis C.

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a globally public health problem taking into account its direct role in morbidity and mortality. The essential risk factors that contribute to the development and progression of CKD are hypertension, diabetes and dislipidemy. ⋯ The causes of impaired baroreflex dysfunction control in chronic kidney disease are not fully known. Understanding the mechanisms that contribute to increased blood pressure variability due to baroreflex dysfunction in chronic kidney disease may represent a key element in diminishing the physio pathological processes that contribute to the development and progression of renal injury.

Prognostic Value of Right Ventricular Function Assessed by Echocardiography in Patients Presenting With a First Acute ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction Treated By Primary PCI.
Informations regarding the prognostic value of right ventricular function changes in the setting of a first acute ST elevation myocardial infarction irrespective of the site of the necrosis and of the left ventricular systolic function are scarce. Purpose of the study was to assess the relation between parameters reflecting global and systolic right ventricular function assessed by conventional, speckle tracking and three-dimensional echocardiography and in hospital major cardiac events (MACE). ⋯ Our study reveals that RV functional parameters are predictive for in hospital MACE beyond LV systolic function and regardless of the culprit coronary artery. Among these parameters, RV MPI seems to have the greatest predictive value for short term MACE in STEMI patients.

NEW CLASS OF DRUGS: THERAPEUTIC RNAi INHIBITION OF PCSK9 AS A SPECIFIC LDL-C LOWERING THERAPY.
Hyperlipidemia is a well-known risk factor for coronary heart disease, the leading cause of death for both men and women. Current lipid-lowering treatment is not always efficient, therefore new pharmacological interventions that reduce LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) have been developed. This paper presents new class of specific LDL lipid-lowering drugs under investigation in phase II or III clinical trials. ⋯ ALN-PCSsc, the new first-in- class therapeutic RNA interference (RNAi) inhibitor of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) is also the first-in-class investigational medicine that acts by turning off PCSK9 synthesis in the liver. The development leadership of ALN-PCSsc has now transferred from Alnylam Pharmaceuticals to The Medicines Company, who has initiated the ORION-1 Phase II study at the beginning of 2016. ALN-PCSsc has significant potential given its highly competitive profile as compared with monoclonal antibodies anti-PCSK9 MAbs, a recently approved class of LDL-C lowering drugs.

Case ReportsTHE AUTOIMMUNE CONSTELLATION IN LICHEN AMYLOIDOSIS.
Localized cutaneous amyloidosis is a rare disease among white people, being more common in South-Asia, China and South America. The disease is characterized by deposition of amyloid material in the papillary dermis without visceral involvement. Nevertheless, there is a growing list of immune-mediated disorders that have been linked to cutaneous amyloidosis. We present two cases of concomitant occurrence of lichen amyloidosis and autoimmune thyroiditis/atopic dermatitis in two Caucasian women.
