Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial
Evaluating the role of alternative therapy in burn wound management: randomized trial comparing moist exposed burn ointment with conventional methods in the management of patients with second-degree burns.
Moist exposed burn ointment (MEBO), from China, has been said to revolutionize burn management. ⋯ MEBO is as effective as conventional management but is not the panacea for all burn wounds. The use of MEBO eases the management of face and neck burns and facilitates early institution of occupational therapy in hand burns. It confers better pain relief such that fewer opiates are used during the first 5 days after burn injury.

The purpose of this article is to discuss an evidence-based algorithm that can be implemented by the primary care physician in his/her daily clinical practice for the treatment of patients with neuropathic pain conditions. ⋯ Patients presenting with neuropathic pain are becoming a more frequent occurrence for the primary care physician as the population ages. Evidence-based treatment options allow for the most efficient and effective pharmacotherapy regimen to be implemented.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical Trial
Long-term efficacy and tolerability of rizatriptan wafers in migraine.
Rizatriptan is a selective 5-HT1B/1D receptor agonist for the acute treatment of migraine. It is available in a unique wafer formulation that dissolves rapidly in the mouth and can be taken without liquids, thereby offering patients a very convenient way to take treatment. ⋯ Rizatriptan 10-mg wafer was more effective than standard care and rizatriptan 5-mg wafer for treating intermittent moderate or severe migraine attacks occurring over periods of up to 6 months. Rizatriptan wafers were well tolerated.

Review Meta Analysis
Review of clinical presentations in Thai patients with primary amoebic meningoencephalitis.
Primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) is a very rare but deadly infection of the central nervous system. Since the disease was first identified in 1965, fewer than 200 cases have been observed worldwide. ⋯ PAM is sporadically reported in Thailand but remains a public health issue. The clinical diagnosis of PAM is usually difficult as many clinicians are unfamiliar with the disease. The prognosis outcome is usually grave although broad medications are prescribed.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
A comparison of the lidocaine patch 5% vs naproxen 500 mg twice daily for the relief of pain associated with carpal tunnel syndrome: a 6-week, randomized, parallel-group study.
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common entrapment neuropathy caused by median nerve compression. This pilot clinical trial was designed to compare the safety and effectiveness of the lidocaine patch 5% to that of naproxen 500 mg twice daily for the treatment of neuropathic pain associated with CTS. ⋯ This study demonstrates that the lidocaine patch 5% is effective in significantly relieving the pain associated with CTS and is well tolerated. The patch may offer patients an effective, nonsystemic, noninvasive treatment for the management of their symptoms. Further controlled studies are warranted.
