[Association between the diabetic foot amputation index and metabolic compensation in diabetes mellitus].
Diabetic foot amputation is a public health challenge due to the increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). Although there are many health indicators aimed at the management and control of T2D and its complications, amputations persist. ⋯ The diabetic foot amputation index was associated with diabetic compensation and decompensation indicators.

[Embolization of spontaneous portosystemic shunts as treatment for refractory hepatic encephalopathy].
Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a common complication of cirrhosis associated with a reduced survival. The presence of high-flux spontaneous porto-systemic shunts can induce HE even in patients with preserved liver function. ⋯ According to our experience, SPSE is a feasible and effective alternative to improve HE and functionality of patients with refractory EH.

Case Reports[Hypercalcemia as a cause of acute pancreatitis. Report of one case].
Severe hypercalcemia may cause acute pancreatitis. We report a 75-yearold male presenting with abdominal pain and confusion. ⋯ A neck CT scan showed a parathyroid tumor, which was successfully excised. The pathology of the surgical piece showed a parathyroid adenoma.

[Quality of life of patients who underwent a bile duct reconstruction].
Bile duct reconstruction (BDR) secondary to bile duct injury during cholecystectomy (BDIC) is a complex surgery, and an important issue is the quality of life (QL) after the procedure. ⋯ In the present study no significant differences were found in QL between the patients with BDIC who underwent BDR and patients who underwent a cholecystectomy without complications.
