Taiwan Nurses Association and the International Council of Nurses recognize nurse practitioners (NPs) as advanced-practice nurses. A total of 11,266 registered nurses held NP certificates in April 2021 in Taiwan (Tsay, 2021). While international organizations recognize NPs with graduate degrees, over 85% of NPs in Taiwan hold a bachelor degree only. ⋯ In addition, when developing virtual simulation, it is necessary to follow teaching team discussion and learning objective setting procedures, pre-brief teachers and students, enact plans, conduct debriefing, and collect and evaluate data to explore the learning and teaching process and outcomes (Verkuyl et al., 2021). The nursing clinical practicum continues to be impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In a further study, nursing academic faculty cooperated with clinical preceptors to develop and design education strategies using authentic technology-integrated clinical simulations to promote advanced and comprehensive care competences in nurse practitioners.

Intensive care unit (ICU)-acquired weakness is a common neuromuscular complication of critical illness that is considered to be associated with prolonged duration on mechanical ventilation and systemic inflammatory response syndrome. In addition, nutrition and metabolic alternations, which are commonly seen in patients in the ICU, may further accelerate muscle wasting and increase the incidence of ICU-acquired weakness. The clinical features of ICU-acquired weakness include acute generalized muscle weakness that develops after the onset of critical illness. ⋯ As the recovery of these physical functions is lengthy and difficult, a multidisciplinary team management is recommended. This mini-review was conducted to provide a scientific overview for ICU-acquired weakness, including its definition, etiology, diagnosis/screening, impacts, and potential intervention strategies. We hope that increasing the understanding of frontline staff will promote the timely planning and implementation of related screenings and interventions to enhance the functional recovery of patients receiving care in the ICU.

Review
[Health Promotion and Emergency Medical Care for All Age Groups Under Conditions of Climate Change].
Climate change impacts on the ecosystem services that people rely on, such as water, air, and agricultural products. The quality and quantity of various ecosystem services may be diminished under conditions of extreme climate change. Therefore, the effects of climate change may be expected to threaten people's health and survival. ⋯ Examples are provided to delineate the biological, psychological, social, and spiritual effects of climate change. The results of this literature review may provide community-based health promotion and emergency medical services guidance for further development and improvements. Healthcare professionals are expected to play a central role in managing the impact of climate change in order to achieve health for all.

[Efficacy of Ultrasound-Guided Peripheral Intravenous Access: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis].
Peripheral intravenous access is a common, invasive procedure that is performed in clinical practice. Difficult intravenous access may not only jeopardize patient safety but also increase staff stress, nursing hours, and material costs. ⋯ The ultrasound-guided technique may improve the efficacy of intravenous access by helping health care professionals visualize the peripheral veins. We suggest that patient characteristics, ultrasound accessibility, and the feasibility of staff training be assessed in order to provide ultrasound guidance that improves the efficacy of intravenous access.
