Comparative Study
[The comparison of the influence of various types of anaesthesia on perioperative bleeding control in endoscopic paranasal sinus surgery].
The study aimed at evaluating the influence of targeted hypotension with three types of anaesthetics on the amount of blood loss in extensive endoscopic operations of polyps of the nose and paranasal sinuses. ⋯ In TIVA the advanced technologically control of a drug dose allows for a better control of hypotension, which, finally, results in lower haemorrhage within the operation area, a favourable condition for both a patient and a physician. Perioperative bleeding was independent on sex in every type of anaesthesia.

Penetrating neck injuries constitute 5-10% of all trauma cases. Such injuries are dangerous because of the high risk of injury to the vital structures in the neck and hence demand an immediate surgical exploration. We present a case of a penetrating injury of the neck caused by the broken metallic fragment of a saw.

This work aimed to analyse the mean arterial blood pressure (MBP) and heart rate (HR) in patients who underwent laryngological surgery within the preoperative, perioperative and postoperative periods. ⋯ The own experience indicates that perioperative lowering of BP, including hypotension, ought to be avoided in cardiology patients. The postoperative BP raise, usually accompanied by pain, was noticed in the own studies. Therefore, effective analgesic treatment should be implemented in a recovery room.

Case Reports
Unilateral non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the frontal sinus presenting as Pott's puffy tumour.
Malignant lymphoma of the paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity is very rare and can mimic those of infectious, non-lymphomatous neoplastic and granulomatous process in their initial presentation, thus delaying its diagnosis. This report describes a case of unilateral frontal sinus B-cell lymphoma presenting as Pott's puffy tumour. Key features to differentiate the two conditions are discussed. ⋯ The patient was treated successfully with 6 cycles of chemotherapy. In conclusion, it is not easy to differentiate Pott's puffy tumour from frontal sinus lymphoma at their initial presentation. With clearer understanding of both conditions, we can raise the index of suspicion among clinicians of the possibility of frontal sinus lymphoma even when evidence of osteomyelitis is present, therefore prompting earlier tissue biopsies for confirmation of diagnosis.

Processing of auditory information in central nervous system bases on the series of quickly occurring neural processes that cannot be separately monitored using only the fMRI registration. Simultaneous recording of the auditory evoked potentials, characterized by good temporal resolution, and the functional magnetic resonance imaging with excellent spatial resolution allows studying higher auditory functions with precision both in time and space. ⋯ The results showed that applied paradigm is suitable for investigation of acoustic processing on the level of auditory cortex. Technique of the simultaneous AEP-fMRI registrations seems to be promising for investigation of more complex nervous processes in central auditory system with good temporo-spatial resolution.
