The metastases from below the clavicles, to the head and neck region, are relatively uncommon, and usually demonstrate during the progression of the primary disease. At that time, the correct diagnosis requires only to compare the pathology report from the primary biopsy, with the biopsy from the lump in the head and neck. The majority of distant metastases to the head and neck region are localized within the lymph nodes. The metastases to nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses are very rare and usually localized within the maxillary sinus. ⋯ The prognosis of metastases from distant organs, to the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses is miserable. In the majority of distant metastases to the nose and paranasal sinuses, the palliative therapy is the only possible option of treatment.

Traumatic retropharyngeal hematoma is a rare but potentially fatal condition that requires early diagnosis and treatment. Obstruction of the airways may develop insidiously, several hours after the trauma. Thus hospital admission with close observation is essential. ⋯ Since respiration was not impaired airway intervention was not necessary. After 5 days of close observation the patient was discharged in good condition. Further recovery was uneventful.

Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis (DISH) is a condition characterized by calcification and ossification of soft tissues, mainly ligaments and enthesis. Dysphagia is the commonest complaint, stridor secondary to osteophyte compression has rarely been documented. The osteophytes may cause symptoms by mechanical compression or by inducting inflammatory reaction. ⋯ Sometimes vocal fold paralysis may result from injury to the recurrent laryngeal nerve. Treatment of the breathing problems required first on stabilization the airway with tracheostomy. Next step is osteophysectomy which generally relief patients from symptoms.

One of the basic audiological parameter in estimation of hearing sensitivity is hearing threshold. The need for an objective tool to efficiently predict the audiogram caused that the use and importance of ASSR method is growing in recent times. However, the technique is quite new and needs to be still improved. Aim of the study was the estimation of behavioral audiogram in comparison with ABR and ASSR threshold of young adults with normal hearing. ⋯ To conclude, this study shows that auditory steady-state responses technique is not useful method in estimating of hearing threshold of young adults with normal hearing.

To relate the authors' experience to the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with benign paroxysmal vertigo of childhood (BPV) who were followed-up at the Children's Hospital of Bydgoszcz between 1999 and 2004, and to review and discuss controversial issues regarding the disease. ⋯ Childhood BPV is a disorder of vestibular system with the onset occurring mainly in preschoolers aged 1-7. Older children with the onset of BPV - like symptoms should be suspected for functional background of the disease. There are no typical ENG features for BPV. The only objective evidence of vestibular dysfunction is the presence of nystagmus during the attack. The disease is probably of vascular origin and there is strong evidence for close relationship between spasmodic torticollis, BPV and migraine.
