Emergency canthotomy and cantholysis - Factors affecting confidence among ophthalmic trainees in the United Kingdom.
Retrobulbar hemorrhage from trauma is the most common cause of orbital compartment syndrome. Emergency canthotomy and cantholysis is a vision-saving procedure. We sought to identify confidence among ophthalmic trainees in this procedure as well as any relevant factors that have any impact. ⋯ From our survey, we found low confidence levels among junior trainees due to limited exposure. Confidence appeared to be linked to both elective and emergency surgical experience of the procedure as well as training course and having worked in an oculoplastic surgery firm. Changes to training portfolio requirements for junior trainees to incorporate early oculoplastic experience may help to achieve this on a national scale.

Adoption of newer teaching methods to overcome challenges of training in ophthalmology residency during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has disrupted training programs across all specialties. Surgical specialties, such as ophthalmology, that need continued microsurgical training are affected the most. The pandemic has resulted in ophthalmology residents being taken off their regular duties in ophthalmology and inducted into COVID duties. ⋯ We highlight the challenges that teachers face in continuing the training programs of theory, clinical skill, and surgical skill transfer. Embracing technology is the need of the hour. We discuss the multiple options available to enable continued training programs and emphasize the need for all training institutes to include technology as an additional component of their training curricula.

Point-of-care rapid antigen testing for COVID-19 at a tertiary eye care facility: Role in commencement of elective surgeries, contact tracing and implementation of back-to-work policy.
The aim of this study was to report the use and the impact of a point-of-care rapid antigen test (PoC-RAT) at a tertiary eye care facility in facilitating commencement of elective surgeries, contact tracing of exposed health care professionals (HCPs) and ancillary hospital staff, and implementation of back-to-work (BTW) policy for them. ⋯ Based on our preliminary results, we suggest that PoC-RAT may be considered routinely for indication-based preoperative screening of asymptomatic patients, and for on-campus screening, contact tracing and implementation of BTW policies for HCPs and ancillary hospital staff at a tertiary level eye care facility.
